You will do readings where no one shows up. You will set up at events and sell no books. Rejection will show up in your inbox again and again. You will say “I wrote a book!” and folks will stay quiet or say “Cool!” and then not buy it. It’s all good. Part of the gig. KEEP AT IT.

Also, I suck at it.
In actuality, you’re in the party. This is the party 💜💜💜😭👍

Friends: "Your book launch? How'd it go?"
Me: "Let me put it this way: I sold a copy of my new book to every single person who showed up."
Friends: "That's amazing! I've never seen EVERYONE at a reading buy the book."
Me: "Yeah, he was pretty glad he came."

precisely. Hopefully your
remarks sink in where needed.
That's ok. Perhaps they're not my main market.
Thanks for posting. Much appreciated 🙏
All 13 ppl attending were either family or spouses (or both) of the authors.
Or store staff.
Not the first time.
😂
And still we keep on.
In hope of connecting with *someone re our story.

So chill. It happened to Terry Pratchett, so it can happen to anyone.
Change your approach, but never change your goal.
Don't sell your book. Sell your passion.

I know, I know. I struggled with it for a few days, but when I got the accent down, it was much easier to pronounce.
Seriously, though. It's a great group of people. Very positive. ✍️😊
But on the other hand, I’ve also done tours where I sold almost every copy.

I have a manuscript I’ve been working on that’s been positively reviewed by an editor-in-chief of a lit mag, the 2019 National Beat Poet Laureate of the U.S, and even the linguistic juggernaut Sir David Crystal - but finding a publisher/editor has been a nightmare!
Thats one for the books for me.
It’s not, right?
I keep at it though! One must imagine Sisyphus happy, right?
I'll drink a hot chocolate and stare at the void in contempt
Sigh...
*swims through the pool of gold doubloons I got from selling so many copies of all my books that everyone knows I wrote and adores*
“I don’t have time”, the most common excuse for starving one’s brain of meaningful nutrients, as if readers got 26 hours, every day.
(J/k sort of)
There’s always someone to be jealous of
I expected more Daredevil fans to visit at my last show, but I got to meet someone who just liked my art style in general, he asked me to do a Blue Falcon (Scooby Doo) sketch card which was fun :)
Every time I see an indie book expo w/author tables - no matter what my time or 💰constraints are, I will always chose at least one author to buy something from & spend some time talking to them. Even if it's not a perfect match. I empathize w/their grueling solitude.
We all need it from time to time.
of day?
But I should “keep at it” and finish nonetheless?
All so I can say
“I wrote a book”?
On the bright side, it sets a really low bar for future success. :)
Paul of Jefferson Airplane and Starship fame played an amazing solo show for the few of us.
Not because they read
Tomorrow I will know if I got a next grant I so much would need.
Two different kind of synopsies are in the make. With the grant: prose. Without: a thriller.
Either way I will continue.
Onward still. Chin up and push more.
It was a nice compliment to take home.
