Here’s a quote from Ian Hanomansing on Cross Country Checkup earlier today responding to this criticism
He insists they aren‘t “both-sidesing” the issue, they’re just learning what people think “on both sides of the border and on many sides of the issue”
— how is this not both-sidesing the issue??

Shame on CBC.
also why in the flying fuck would I want American opinions on this?
"Canada is not a sovereign nation and USA should annex it: is not a side that should be given air.
Ukraine is Sovereign.
Canada is Sovereign.
Panama is Sovereign
Mexico is Sovereign.
Not really much to discuss.
Get with it Hanomansing.
I do not approve.
Ian can fuck all the way off.
I believe that non-corporate press is *essential* to combat the misinformation-fueled rise of neo-nazism and why Poilievre is so hell bent on normalizing shitty outlets.
For my Fed Petition to gut CBC & replace them with all you brilliant independents! Fenlon & Hanomansing give us a strategic opportunity too good to waste!
That's the very definition of "both sides"
It was a huge, high stakes gamble that could have ended very differently w/profound consequences.
IH should have STRONGLY emphasized it’s against intl law but callers looked after that. 🙄
Gah. The premise of the whole thing was just awful.
I didn’t want to tune in but had to.
I think my bigger criticism is that it lacked context and framed serious threats to our sovereignty / democracy / international law as if they were looking for feedback on an offbeat policy proposal
I do think the CBC tried to address the backlash, and Ian did note most Canadians don't want this. Overall, results mixed.
It was so dismissive. I went in with an open mind, they failed.
Using words like “treason” for every questionable take diminishes the power of the word ofc, but that they did not base the conversation on international sovereignty law, contextualizing the threat, with appropriate guests, is a problem.
By using “both sides” in his response denying “both-siding” is absolutely stupid.
I thought Ian Hanomansing was more intelligent than that.
May he be ratioed into oblivion ever more.
I hope he isn't like this with his family.
Perhaps we are attacking friendly targets because the real culprits are too hard to get at.
