If you're struggling financially due to government fuckery or for any reason really and you need infant formula talk to your pediatrician we can hook you up and don't like to ask questions.

You are extremely important and I can't thank you enough. It's important that we remain a community. It's important we have each other's backs. Now more than ever.
While that's an understandable sentiment ultimately it isn't helpful. Yeah, there's a lot of people who didn't think the leopards would eat their faces, but we need to show them compassion so that they'll join our numbers.
They will not change or reward you for your selflessness. Better let them pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Did the last 20 years teach you nothing? Compassion is for suckers. If we had been a lot meaner a lot sooner we would not be in this mess and I ain't giving dime one to them.
There's a difference between "compassion gets you nowhere" and "cruelty is desirable". As was pointed out, we're talking about letting children starve here for the sins of their parents. No one is even asking you to give anything.
Just to not be so quick to reactionary cruelty.
Like the fascists are
Motherfucker if you're talking about letting babies starve you aren't winning a Goddamned thing.
You're literally just doing the same shit as the enemy. You aren't passing any sort of means testing, you're the fucking problem. You're the reactionary. JFC, liberals are so fucking stupid.
Yeah, that too. We're not just talking about "they'll have to buy their own", we're talking about "their children might starve".
I worked a register for a year, I know that shit is expensive. *No one* bought it except with WIC. And they kept it in the back so poors couldn't feed their children.
Yes, we in Europe feel the same. About America and about us. In fact we really need to keep our heads cool, unite and be strategic. We need to influence several groups, set tasks for several groups and be the steadfast resistance.
1000% agree! They were one of my favorite specialties to work with. They really don’t get recognized enough, and foot health is so important and indicative of other health conditions!
I’ll never forget when our pediatrician produced some for our six week old in 2022 when we came up empty at two stores. We absolutely love our pediatrician. Thank you for all the work you do 💙
The nurse at our pediatrician’s office asked which formula we used, I thought she just needed to know for documentation purposes. Then she came back into the room with an armful of cans 😇
Yes formula it's quite important I have a friend that sends it to Haiti.
Another need, if you need a toothbrush or floss or other dental hygiene items, I would imagine a local dentist will be more than happy to give you a sample bag.
Trump's admin putting WIC funding on pause (or whatever the hell they're trying to do, which they don't even seem to know) is just more ghastly theatrics. What kind of shitty person thinks "starving babies to own the libs" is a good day's work. Who votes for that?
Remember when we had a formula shortage because 1 factory shut down & infants who needed special formula were starving & I had to drive to upstate NY to buy formula & family from Ireland had to ship to me so my baby could eat, & then they did nothing to prevent it from happening again in the future?
100%! Pediatricians get tons of free formula.
I help in a food bank and had a doctor donate over 50 cans of powdered formula.
it helped so many families!
I work at a grocery store. I can't speak for everyone but personally, it's not possible for me to see someone stealing infant formula. Like, I could watch the aisle all day...I will never see it. It's super weird how my glasses just don't work on baby aisles.
Not as much as you would think once you factor in the increased nutritional needs of people who are lactating. It’s advised to eat an extra 500 calories which is a whole extra meal a day.
Your work is appreciated, even if on your day to day you may not get the thanks that you deserve. Thank you for helping others in their time of need, especially those with young children.
I have seriously considered relactation. I was a serious over-producer, and donated milk regularly to babies in my community. In addition to my 2 kids, I regularly donated to 7 others during my breastfeeding years.
Awwww thanks! I was happy to find people who needed it. My husband was like “We don’t have the freezer space for all this!”, but throwing it out would have broke my heart!
Not a ton. I did shed baby weight like crazy, so I suppose that helped. I just ate when I was hungry, though. I think the biggest thing was being consistent on a pumping schedule. I was very good about that, which helped my supply stay strong.
I was on another platform urging people worried about losing WIC to organize in their community to feed babies and kids. Form groups that can help each other out with formula and breastmilk. Plant community gardens. It’s an idea that can be done on a small scale but could be expanded as well.
This is amazing work! I encourage you to help your community in anyway you can during this uncertain time. We all have to start local to make big impacts. You’re a pebble making a huge ripple effect. Jump in🤗✨🫶✌️ Visit local shelters, only post on BlueSky. Don’t support maga businesses. Good Trouble!
I’ll have to look into it. It’s been a LONG TIME, so not sure how possible it is at my age now, or if I’ll produce like I did. But I’ve still got a breast pump and all the parts, so….
I know the WHO have multi records of grandmothers who have lactated for their grandchildren. These women were well past menopause and fed their grandchildren when their parents couldn't. It takes commitment, and patience to get it going but totally possible. Pretty sure WHO could help with guidance.
I am not asking you to put yourself at risk. Stay safe! But if you can help in your local communities that will be key. Yes, we have to all think outside the box bc rule and laws no longer apply. Be the pebble in your community so that we weed out the stupidity and hate. Humanity will not survive🪨
I offered milk during the formula shortage and no one wanted it because I take meds. I understand being extra picky, and was glad no one needed it that badly, but I've been nursing for almost 8 years straight with two kids. I could definitely provide if someone needed it.
I first thought of all if they have Medicaid he froze that they might not be able to see their DR then it just made me think a lot of those on Medicaid are also on WIC and that’ll probably be shut down too
so thank you for telling that some pediatricians carry the formula and can offer samples
It’s not some peds. It’s all of them. Every single pediatric office has a closet full of formula samples. The only ones who don’t are the ones who manage to give it all away before the rep comes back.
I did not know that my kids are full grown adults with children themselves
back when my kids were babies the only way I had any access to formula when I needed it was either WIC or the health depart
I don’t know if the health department carries it now and can give it to you or not.
Unless you had your kids before the ubiquity of formula your ped had it too they just didn’t advertise it to you because you already were getting it from WIC. Many peds try to save the samples for the families that have no access otherwise.
back then WIC and other services wasnt advertised as much that it was available
In fact I didn’t even know it was available to women. I ended up having twins and one was in Children’s Hosp and they’re the ones that told me about it. I believe you that DRs had it and just didn’t share the information
This is often true of medications, too. When I was unemployed and couldn't afford my insulin my GP would give me samples he had on hand. I'm sure pediatricians have samples on hand as well. Absolutely life-saving.
Or you can nurse your baby. It's free and much healthier than man made formula. Or, if you can't nurse, use goats milk which can be tolerated better than formula or cows milk.
Not only that, it’s expensive. A baby needs feeding every two hours and you have to throw away any bottle milk you don’t use. Formula is shelf stable too.
Even if you did 10 minutes of nursing before needing to use formula, you did an amazing job. Formula saved your baby’s life, and a fed and healthy baby is the only thing that matters.
I hate bottle shaming and I breastfed my kids. I was a lactation counsellor for La Leche and so many women are pointlessly guilted for not breastfeeding- it’s not possible for so many reasons.
I breastfed all 3 of my kids until toddlerhood. I did it because I was lucky enough to produce milk, my kids didn’t have tongue ties or gastro issues & I had a long mat leave & could pump at work. Millions of babies are alive & thrive because of formula. Don’t lecture people.
My son is super lactose intolerant, we've tried every light milk/no milk option provided until we found puramino. IU had a spot online we signed up for that delivered that expensive formula straight to my house. Helped out tremendously
18 years ago, our pediatrician was a lifeline when our preemie twins needed high-calorie formula and we could hardly find it in any stores. She always had it in stock and would help us out. 🙏
That’s a great post. I was a pediatric nurse, and I’ve shared this with others to encourage them to reach out to healthcare providers. I would have helped anyone who asked.
As someone who struggled with an infant with fpies during the huge shortages three years ago, bless the pediatricians who helped us keep our kid fed during that nightmare
Yah especially the ones like ours where it was medically required and not any choice. If we didn’t have someone else pay I have no idea how we would have done it. The monthly cost was more than we both made at the time.
It helps to have a pediatrician and pharmacist who fights for you.
Well, depending on stock ... It's good week to call some companies and have them send extra reps over with more. No coffee necessary! Just canisters! 🩵

I’ve put 4 kiddos through the formula years and thankful that time is past. It’s even harder on parents now so thank you for doing this!

They want more babies in the world? Start listening to people who actually take care of babies.

It's been a very long time since I had my baby, or had any need for formula, but it did my heart good to see your post. ♥️🖖🏾

I bet even a 10% increase in walking time would make a difference...
I only worry about equipment and that these fascists could find you and force.
Jesus. How is that a real thing to fear. 😩

So I can attest to this.
Saved us many, many thousands.
