So, when I write a book I've always gone for a definitive ending. A payoff for the reader who's reached the last page. Something is achieved. Something is resolved,. Even if the book is a part of a longer series and there's an overarching series arc, each book has its own arc as well...

Well, it didn't bother.
I always thought that was a bit mad, because I’d rather watch what I could.
But now, in 2024, I mostly just don’t bother watching. Was he right and I wrong, I wonder 💭
Hard sell with that guy, but happy I did it anyway.
You'd always want multiple planned seasons, just in case you get them. But the story finished and wasn't rushed. See Babylon5 for a counter-example where they were messed about by the studio. So they rushed the story in season 4 and then got a fifth.
That's how the arcs ended historically. The burning down of the town would have made for a good ending of a series.
I saw the movie as a send-off for David Milch more than anything else. I didn't enjoy it.
