Milton Freidman opposed the Civil Rights Act on the grounds of "government coercion." He also argued that private schools were a non-violent way for parents to maintain segregation (when "violence" to a libertarian actually means "taxes").

Many years ago Politico, when it was decent and unbiased, published an excellent analysis of how Abortion became a right wing cause, and its ties to Southern desegregation. In the early 70s, abortion was actually condoned by Democrats, Republicans, Evangelicals, and many who were not Catholic.

In the late 60s, after SCOTUS and th Civil Rights Act forced desegregation, all-white "Christian academies" cropped up in the South as a way to get around it, and the racist Evangelical community behind it were hiighly upset when SCOTUS and Nixon revoked their tax exempt status (Grfeen v Kennedy).

2 graduated (one with a 4.0 GPA) and my grandson still goes there.

After the "Great Kanawha Textbook Controversy" in 1974 my state created a LOT of church schools. The new online wave of "Learning Academies" also seem to be leaning into religion in their promotions. They all hated online learning during Covid but now its going to be great!

In Missouri,charter schools students do not test well. The rural areas will not be able to support private and public schools. Healthy public schools benefit more students and will cost less than the vouchers programs. And kids with special needs are served by public schools. Fund public education
