Nothing more annoying than posting about the biggest story of the day and getting replies from small accounts asking “what’s this story all about?” like search engines don’t exist

I used to feel the same, but anymore, search engines are less reliable, they undercut the work of journalists and are run by corporations not exactly covering themselves in glory during the current era of autocracy. So I try to answer.
But don't know if I could with your numbers of followers.
For those of us new to all of this, just feels like an absolute douche move. Republicans do not have the corner on the market for being absolute asses.
Oh, no. I totally get it. It feels like someone asking you to do their research for them! It's especially problematic when someone with power asks someone marginalized to explain something. But as I grew more leary of search engines, I saw some legit reasons people might want to avoid them...
That's why, when I ask someone a question, I tend to also explain why I am asking. It might be a subject I know so little about, I need to know more before even trying to Google. Or it's a subject I believe I will get fed misinformation about. Because, yeah, otherwise you're spot on. Feels rude.
Yeah, I’m not crazy about this comment. I can think of way more annoying things. You sound like you’re bothered. So don’t answer the questions or better, don’t read the comments.
That sucks Kevin cause you were my, and I assume many other’s, Id today. I felt every post you made and knowing someone else was as mad at the biggest story of the day help keep from breaking things.
the only problem I have is really understanding what cloture is vs. the filibuster. but I fumbled my way through search engines. 😅 (I'm neither american nor native english speaker).
One thing to consider: If you have followers all over the world, then a different corner of the world may consider breaking news differently than you. Not all news are relevant to everybody.
The dumbass post yesterday about the US champagne industry about to boom made me crazy 🤣🤦🏻♀️ I wish I was kidding when I say 90% of the ppl around to hear me rant Abt his stupidity had blank stares & no idea why more US champagne was a bad thing 😳 I just can't SMH
I used to be able to find anything by searching Google.. But in the last couple of years it's gotten so bad because no matter how I word a question, I'm immediately sent to the most common questions people ask with what ever main word might be in my question and not the answer to my question!🤬
I read a post that shared an article about a tragic situation, that mentioned there was a Go Fund Me. One of the comments was "Is there a Go Fund Me?" with many seconding it. I'm so codependent that I looked it up for them, but did explain that I searched the name and Go Fund Me.
I assume you're referring to the guy who got so mad he let himself get baited into showing up to a Home Depot to fight someone who had no intention of coming
That a big account gets a lot of likes and replies, and to engage at all with replies is difficult; made more difficult by a bunch of engagement from useless dorks?
Are you saying that someone who asks a question they could look up themselves is a useless dork, or that a person with a small account is a useless dork? If the former, it doesn't answer my question.
Ad hominem attacks don't help make a point. The basic gist of my question is that if someone does something annoying, why does it matter if they are a big or small account. And frankly, I was wondering what Kevin meant, not you.
I’m convinced the majority of them are trolls testing a new ways to be dicks. Their usual forms of ass-hattery that work on other sites don’t have the same results here.
Sometimes in social media- you just gotta keep scrolling/swiping and eventually you’ll figure it out. Otherwise, leave it alone, your life will be fine being none the wiser.
The beauty of social media is that there is normally someone out there inclined to, interested in, happy to catch people up directly. So a "Hey, I'm not caught up on this, can anyone help me out?" is, like, literally, the sign of a vibrant and generous community.
One thing I really appreciated when I first came to Bluesky was that no one was making much of a distinction between large accounts and small accounts. If you don't want to answer, just scroll by. There's no need to be rude. Unfollowing.
If only there were some way for them to access basically the sum total of human knowledge from the palm of their hands. Oh well, maybe someday. Until then we demand that you esplain it to us, Lucy! I cringe every time I see this and am pretty brutal to my own friends who do it. C’mon, y’all
I do hate when posts are so vague you couldn’t possibly google it from accounts I want to know what they think. “What are they thinking!?!?” from someone I get a lot of commentary from is annoying. I rapidly stop getting info from them though 🤷♀️
Segue gripe about search engines (Where else to put this!?) 😆
Googles "-" (minus) search is overridden by ads/sponsored content and chicanery.
I used to be able to search: Amy Gleason - 2025, -2024, 2023 and ONLY see searched without those dates. It is broken now.
They may not know your side of the story. Don't be condescending. If someone asks, why not explain? Or post an article at least? They may not have the same access that you do to the facts.
Some of us are still new to
BlueSky and new to political activism. A little slack please. At least we are trying to get up to speed as quickly as possible. Tough crowd.
Sorry for being social on social media. Maybe instead of looking at these beautiful, bespoke, handcrafted replies you can just go and plug your skeet into chatgpt and see what it has to say
While I agree with you, there are some on social media that post non sequiturs and then expect the rest of us to automatically know what they are referencing. A little context goes a long way (as does a link to the story).
Such a hard existence being a big account. And posting something and get engagement. Who would have thought!!! Well while we are discussing pet peeves, I think it's douchey to not engage and be a snob about it.
well, the dismantling of the us is not really a pet peeve, no? 😅
we are living through major historical moments now. I can't get myself to look away on any day. it's mindblowing stuff happening.
I didn't get a whiff that it was the gravity of these particular times but maybe youre right. 🤷♀️ I still find it lame when someone with tons of followers treats it as outgoing only.
I really made that comment bc it irks me when someone follower# shames.
Maybe post in your profile to not ask question. Geez. FFS people. Can we not be on the same team? What is the fucking point of trying? Pushed down by every side. This shit is exhausting.

[ducks]
I think you should be glad that people are engaging with you at all, not annoyed that they're not yet on your wavelength.
GFY morons!
And THIS small account is unfollowing. I don’t recall following him. What a wanker. Who is this dude??? 🤢
