Hey! I just picked that one up this year at a flea market, along with Pitfall and Tennis. Barely played them, though, my friends weren't very interested. I love old games. We had NES rather than Atari growing up, the Atari paddles and joysticks are novel to me.
ff4 and 6. yes i have last time i played 6 was 2022 i think... played the iphone version they ported to pc. might do the pixel remaster when i playthrough it again. i really wish there was a breath of fire collection for pc. but have to emulate it. not giving out hope for capcom to make one.
For the sake of deviating from the typical Zelda & Mario answers (which are totally valid and my first thought), I'll go with FFTA. It was one of my first properly story-driven games, and was such a magical experience for me. I loved the combat, unlocking all the classes, & I ate up that story, too.
Dang, gifs on bluesky do be blurry. Here are a few screenies, for people who haven't seen the gorgeous art of FFTA (Final Fantasy Tactice Advance) properly - the return to this general style is one of the reasons Triangle Strategy hit so much for me when that came out :>
Mass effect and nfsu2 I still play mass effect from time to time but nfsu2 I don't It's hard to find a version without viruses and as far as I know you need to Install an emulator to even start the game
Favorite video game as a kid was sly 2 band of thieves. I would play sly 2 after i beat sly cooper the thieveous racconous since i stopped at the final level first mission
Didn't get home access to video games until my teens, but all we had for a long time was Pong and Pinball
I did adore real pinball and would live at the arcade near our house for Cheetah pinball. I do still play pinball when I have access to a machine though
Pokemon Diamond, and it's impossible because of all the games that came after that are better but I'll forever cherish it for what it meant to as 11/12 year old
Majora’s Mask. Still my favourite Zelda game, uniquely creepy and dark in what’s typically a pretty upbeat franchise. It was also way ahead of its time for day and night cycles, with NPC’s that have actual “lives” to live in the three day cycle.
Arcade story: I used to play Pole Position EVERY time I went to the arcade because I had a recurring nightmare that all the adults disappeared & I had to drive a car. PS, when I did finally learn to drive IRL it was in NJ, so Pole Position was perfect training.
For someone who has moved far away from racing games and even 3d adventures in my own dev, you might be surprised where I got started! There's something beautiful about a team that wasn't content to make a fun racer - they had to make a little world too - I think that will always inspire me.
You gotta plug that WiiU in, friend! The onboard NAND decays without power to it and you may wind up doing surgery on it to recover your system. (I’m linking Voultar’s kit in case anyone finds out they have dead NAND and need a good kit for repair)
I really enjoy it, but the humour doesn't quite hit the same, and a lot of content is in dlcs. It's definitely good though and has a lot of quality of life improvements.
Had the same feelings about it. I wonder how much of it is just that it was more fun in that era and my age at that time. In my opinion it's probably as good as a spiritual successor can be without adding a lot of their own flair to it.
Can't go back to them for obvious reasons, but River Raid is a real bugbear, because Activision won't allow Atari to use it, even when they did the 50th Anniversary compilation 😢
I'm a lot different from people here because I'm still a kid lol but I have many very sweet memories of getting home to hop on my switch and listening to the enchanting sounds of animal crossing music, back when new horizons was brand new :)
I loved Mega Man X as a kid and technically the SNES was my brother’s so I would have to sneak into his room when he was gone to play it lol. He’s 6 years older than me so I can imagine he hated that
I try to play it every once in a while. I still think it holds up really well. I also love 2 & 3
It's a toss up between Paper Mario and Super Mario World. Both have a serious amount of childhood memories and it's hard to go back to them without getting hit when the music starts.
I occasionally watch play throughs but I play MrDo every so often. I have nostalgia for a lot of early C64 games. Monty on the Run was probably my fave - I played it recently but found it a bit too hard
Kingdom Hearts II was my favorite and is still one of my favorite games of all time. I’ve only played it a little over 10 times, but I cherish that game so much.
As a kid? ...maybe Turtles In Time on SNES. And yes.
As a teenager, and to this very day EarthBound has been my absolute favorite of all time. I still go back to it periodically, and have beaten it over 150 times since it came out nearly 30 years ago
Soul Blazer, probably the one i have the most time in over the years. One of these days ill play it for RA, but I've never been able to no damage any of the bosses. Can be 100% completed in a day if you know what you're doing. Some people speed run it, but Ive never tried.
WOW that's so many games. Mario games yes I go back to them from time to time. But then I like killer instinct and Clay Fighters both games I haven't played in many years. Then as a teen FF7 and yes I go back but love playing the Ramke.
It was kenseiden for a long time, it’s a lot nicer to play after modding the console for 60Hz (I’m in Europe) but the special stages are nigh-on impossible at the higher speed! Don’t go back to it often
Still love it, still need to finish my most recent playthrough of Turok 2.
I also searched every single corner of Ocarina of Time looking for the Triforce, doing all sorts of things to try and trigger a reveal. Never did find it 😒 😅
lol! As a kid there were no video games. Atari was the first and I was 22 at the time. But my favorite game playing with my son was Twisted Metal. He was much better at it than I was.
It’s a hard one but this one remain in my childhood memory the most, Sonic Adventure 2. Yeah, I’m still young but I don’t regret picking up this one because it’s make Sonic 3 more awesome.
Steambot Chronicles, and absolutely...even if I have to cheat a little to play it now since it costs so much to even get a proper PS2 setup and copy of it nowadays.
I'm just glad I'm finally at the tier of PC where I can play it again smoothly from start to finish.
This is actually a possible future. Humans have polluted the planet beyond liveable conditions and have left Earth, leaving trash cleaning robots behind. One of them becomes corrupt and corrupts the others, who wait for the humans to return to destroy them.
Have not gone back in a while. Need to and have my GameCube set up so can use that collection since it has a 60hz mode (and my bro lost my mega drive copy of S&K while I was at university SOMEHOW)
Comments
TMNT (nes)
Toe Jam and Earl
Mortal Kombat 2
I like to keep it old school.
I play it all the time. I think it was very “advanced” at the time. You sacrifice a life to get more fire power. Groundbreaking at the time.
And they are on the shelf with the other games ATM
Ha Ha Ha. We didn't even have colour's Tv's.
Yep! I still revisit all of them, somehow.
- Pokemon Firered
- Animal Crossing Wild World
And also
- Ocarina of Time
These are all pre Wii / pre PS3 games so very nostalgic for me
Sure.
Here was his, again at an arcade
None of us grew up with money

I did adore real pinball and would live at the arcade near our house for Cheetah pinball. I do still play pinball when I have access to a machine though
Also, Kung Fu and tetris. I'll hit that anytime I need a quick gaming fix and only have 5 mins or so.
Only thing close is MAME Asteroids, so, I can't go back to it really.
Looks like it's a bit buggy on phone rn but better than nothing :)
Don't know if you have a pc but it's on sale right now if so!
And yes, I go back to it from time to time.😌
Galaga. I use play in and win tournaments as a pre-teen.
I play it whenever I run into one, but I rarely get to finish a game due to time constraints. The old man's still got it ;)
I said don’t laugh!
I have RotTK IVon Saturn that I plan on playing in 2025….can’t wait!
https://voultar.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=92
Play this when I get a free couple of hours which is rare nowadays.
And, yes. I'm freaking old.
And yeah, all if the time.
The theme tune haunts my dreams.
Robotron in the arcade
When it first came out it was incredible and honestly, it’s the last game that managed to genuinely scare me with jump scares after all these years.
This is still of my favorite series 🙌
oldschool drawing maps to find the way out😂
So cool👍
It was my first PC game and holds a special place.
River Raid (Atari 2600)
Can't go back to them for obvious reasons, but River Raid is a real bugbear, because Activision won't allow Atari to use it, even when they did the 50th Anniversary compilation 😢
There were no others.
What about you?
and I don't go back to it as much these days because I've learned WHY I had so much pent up frustration pfft
And yeah, typically do a playthrough every year or two, it's a fantastic little game
I try to play it every once in a while. I still think it holds up really well. I also love 2 & 3
idk, i guess just maybe.... especially after NSO 🤣
Played many times since then. Linux and windows and android.have to try on switch
It's Zelda OoT and MM. I play the 3DS versions manually in November.
As a teenager, and to this very day EarthBound has been my absolute favorite of all time. I still go back to it periodically, and have beaten it over 150 times since it came out nearly 30 years ago
Still love it, still need to finish my most recent playthrough of Turok 2.

I go back to it often.
I'm just glad I'm finally at the tier of PC where I can play it again smoothly from start to finish.
Can't wait for Blizzard to release the new open world one
Darius Twin for 1v1
I play it each and every year. It is still my favourite game of all time.
As a hobbyist game dev, it taught me so much about level design too.
No, I can't, I miss that game😔
Yes
It still slaps
I'm getting the master collection soon 🤙
I used to watch my dad play and he would let me play sometimes. I was just too young to know the name😭 I can elaborate more but prayers someone knows
Went back and played it, and I dont remember it being so short.
