OMG, Rollercoaster Tycoon! Nostalgia just hit me hard, I’ve spent countless hours just decorating the park and going absolutely bankrupt lol, I miss this a lot!
Get rollercoaster tycoon 1 and 2 on steam or GOG and download openRCT2 https://openrct2.org/ it has a lot of quality Life Changes, bug fixes, new coasters types and resolutions for modern systems.
I had to stop playing RCT back in the day because I would lose entire weekends. Hardly eating, sleeping, or socializing. I would suddenly realize it was 5 AM on Monday morning and I had to start thinking about work. I really want to try out PC2, but…that HABIT.
I remember improving the happiness in the park by taking all the unhappy people and dropping them in the lake. Did wonders for my happiness statistics!
Kids these days don't understand the serious dedication it took to carry your microwave sized computer, 50lb monitor, and a crate of cables just to set up a LAN and game with your friends. 😂
This and AoE were my gateway games. Somehow, despite the incredible array of excellent builder/sim games out there today, RCT1 still feels like the pinnacle of fun in the genre.
One unusual thing Chris Sawyer did with his management games was putting the game in action behind the main menu. I was used to this from action games like Doom, but not this style of game. I'd watch the Transport Tycoon Deluxe demo menu screen, eyeing things I couldn't build.
mine was sim city...as a kid it gave me an appreciation of what government actually does and how incredibly hard it is...that budget was not budgeting so i had to raise tax...crisis after crisis that all need to be juggled at once
what a cozy set up! my CRT monitor has been hibernating in the closet since i don’t have the room for it now, but this is really tempting me to try and figure something out again…
