Current status of Twitter: the billionaire owner and a podcast host worth hundreds of millions are dogpiling a pediatrician who develops vaccines to give to impoverished countries.

This is so depressing. I really loved the community on Twitter for artists, and musicians in particular. It’s like breaking up with a totally hot partner, that just hasn’t showered or bathed in 6 months.
Yes, and I post less (and less substantively), but it's not a simple yes/no. It's still a much larger audience and reach. If, say, I want to make a point to a whole lot of people, it's the best bet. I continue to post here and on Mastodon to help them grow as competitors.
I just fundamentally disagree that it’s not a simple yes/no. It’s a choice between giving free content to fascists or not, I come down on the not side, even if it means less engagement or reach.
FWIW my engagement provides me with absolutely zero financial benefits, not one person has ever hired me from social media, and if anything it's a negative. I use my reach for purposes of social advocacy, and I have seen discrete policy changes based on it.
That you get no financial benefit is all the more reason to leave. Dunking on Elon is easy with your reach but it’s free content and engagement for the Musk owned and run platform. Just quit it.
Aren't posts stored on a particular domain, owned by a particular group, and therefore couldn't the folks building AT create mod tools, much like Reddit, with rules for that group?
Yup that's pretty much it, I think it will work similar to Mastodon in which you can ban entire instances and enforce whatever rules admins see fit. My point is that the main instance is usually more on the "avoid free speech drama" side of things
Something I have been wondering about is how this experiment will work once there's > 1 "hub" for posts. Right now the UX of the app is quite good but we're totally avoiding the distributed aspect, which is where the chaos ensues.
