As an American, I don't know what to say to Canadians. Yes, our President is constantly threatening to annex you.
No, I can't say for sure he won't try. I can't blame you for taking it seriously, nor for retaliating against our tariffs. I'd do the same if I were you.
It sucks.

You can watch Christiane Amanpour realize in real time on CNN just how seriously Canadians are taking the annexation threats.

They’re trying to get the word out about what Trump is doing.
No Canadian government can ever take the word of an American administration with any certainty ever again.
The only that that worries me is just how much he's controlled by Putin and how strong those "destroy the west" marching orders are.
We must expect everything from Trump nobody in the world, even Putin actually, doesn’t trust him..
My fury (yes, I do have fury) isn’t directed at all Americans, just Trump and those who support and enable him.
I have friends and relatives in the States. They’re great and I know they’re not the only Americans who are great.
It’s a very weird feeling because obviously it’s against our interests, but at the same time - WE can’t protect ourselves from him, evidently! So why would allies see what he’s doing to his fellow citizens and just ignore that?
Save yourselves.
For the avoidance of doubt, "a little" means enormously.
Trump's complete disrespect to our prime minister alone ("Governor" Trudeau) is bad enough, but the annexation threats are downright scary.
We can't trust the US ever again.
The vast majority of Americans are okay with all of this.
Half voted Trump in. The leadership of the other half thinks colour coordination is opposition. “Protest” is making posts on social media. Nobody is serious.
