Pat McFadden, "We're going to do more to get long term sick people off benefits and into work"
Is Labour's plan workhouses for the sick? I don't understand how people who are so sick that they can't work can work. Can anyone clarify?

There is a cross party belief, shared by many of the general public, that a proportion of people on long term sickness benefit are malingering.
There is little factual basis for this belief.
It is on the same spectrum as beggars having a Mercedes hidden in a side street.
I’ve got to wait 12months for a re-assessment for hearing aids, my current aids don’t work and I know my hearing has changed significantly. I’m retired now but if I was still in work I would not have been able to do my job!

It is hard to trust good intent when the government's starting point is to save money, not help disabled people find work.
That doesn’t have to solely come from cutting disability.
For example, getting more young people into work, education, or training would reduce the cost, with no cuts to disability benefits.
No one will be more delighted than me if you're right.
That's when we will find out where the cuts will fall.
I'm reserving judgment until then, but what I've heard so far hasn't reassured me. All about savings, nothing about fixing access to work or employers.
They have announced plan to look at access to work

After all it's only an opinion.
1. You’re not fit to work
2 you’re not fit for work but you’re fit to look for work or fit to do some work 🤷♀️
With a 25 year old I am a Thatcher child so I told him about mining communities.
He said decades of that growing up would sap anybody's resilience. He then said working full time &on benefits
How many times do we have to prove we are ill even in public tribunals? After getting through that, they change the rules again because they didn’t like that outcome. Walk a day in my shoes, Oh I can’t walk atm!!!
Plus the majority of people on long term sick don’t work because they CAN’T work. Why are they focusing on this? Where’s the empathy?
You’ll go far.
TAX THE SUPER RICH!
People can recover, and they're more likely to do that with a working NHS
I have met people who are on UC due to disability desperately need a job but employers don’t like employing them
Don’t you jut love it when history repeats itself without fear of conscience?

Have unqualified Americans tickle their palms with a feather, if they react cancel their benefits.
That led to a number of deaths.
Same as withdrawing support if they don't turn up for an assessment - even when it had been officially cancelled.
Futile. They won't.
Access to Work has fallen apart.
There is currently an average 9 month waiting list, admin has rocketed and funding cut.
Same thing happening to Disabled Student Allowance.
Can't understand it because both schemes are vital.
I wouldn't have had a career without them.
Finding a way to manage this makes sense, surely?
Unfortunately, your workhouse theory is probably closer to the truth!
It's all the fault of those on benefits and boats.
Carry on like that & the fag ash Furher will love it.
