Yeah, that's what people tend to forget Disney. Put out a lot of dark stuff. I mean, they ignore it, but that's one of the reasons why Gen Z and some millennials are so desensitized.
Now I realise that my two favorite Disney movies are ones with a lot of people dying: Atlantis and Treasure Planet
I don't know what to think about that
Didn’t Rourke say there died like 200 people when Sweet set the candle in the water to honor them? This few who are left could’ve never operate this hella large submarine alone…especially since like 90% of them were just Rourkes loyal army guys
I had a whole epiphany the other day about Disney and depicting death. There are some gruesome off screen ones (Atlantis in particular holy cow 🕯️), but I can only think of two animated movies that show corpses on screen. Guess which ones were my fixation as a kid?
I mean, the film literally starts off with Atlantis itself being submerged into sea. It would make sense now that you mentioned it. That opening scene also would make Godzilla proud.
Actually, I love that movie. I loved how Disney made it to an animated masterpiece as a kid, honestly, And Kita is like one of the Warrior Princesses we get to have said. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's a big fan of the animated movie
That film had a high bodycount but the main complaint at the time is that it didn't have any songs.
But yeah, this movie would have totally kicked even more ass if they stretched the runtime to a little over two hours to give the film half an hour of solid Disney songs.
Most of the main submarine crew was killed by the lobster, I don't remember if the fireflies got any confirmed kills, they kill Spock, and then a bunch of the faceless soldiers go down. Isn't it basically just the main crew that survive at the end?
And parents are worried about shielding from the you know , don't say card when you forget how much death gets expose to have these kids One of the reasons Why gen z is so decentcitized
God i remenber watching it on the big screen with my mom.
was amazing, i wa sso used to disney making more light princess movies them from nowhere they release this ACTION PACK story, i wish disney had stayed like that
the way Lyle Rourke dies at the end of the movie is fucking brutal too. Im honestly suprised no one talks about it more when it comes to disney villian deaths
True, but if you count cells as people, imagine the billions Thrax murdered BEFORE osmosis Jones even took place. He got those DNA beads from somewhere--and the past hosts didn't make it.
I'm pretty sure if she does, Amazon could sue her for breaking an NDA.
Plus, the show wouldn't be as enjoyable if she just spoiled it to us. Why do you think people were angry when season 2 was leaked?
It's even been argued this was the first Disney movie to see a princess become queen. I'd argue that it's not true cause it wasn't explicitly stated, but close enough. Disney really tried some new stuff and did a great job with it. World just wasn't ready.
I'd go with Fantasia or Dinosaur. In Fantasia, during the Rite of Spring segment, we see the dinosaurs get completely wiped out. In Dinosaur, countless dinosaurs and lemurs perish due to the effects of the fireball. Hell, we see one Dinosaur die within the first five minutes of the film.
Pretty sure it's Mulan? Most Disney movies don't have much of a body count, but Mulan is the only Disney princess who's got a body count that goes at least into the triple, if not quadruple, digits.
I think the Meteor from Dinosaurs might actually top that one.
even if it did crash in the ocean it had to have killed the lifeforms that were in the area and it did kill all of the inhabitants on Aladar's home island
tbf it was one of their early CGI movies that was put out between the beginning of the Experimental era and the mid part of that same Era LOTS of films tended to get forgotten and only in the past decade have been reevaluated
In Japanese anime series, the scenes of dying and suffering of people or the main characters are even more brutal, so what Disney shows the death scenes are ridiculous and nothing compared to anime.
Welcome to the KILL COUNT! Where we tally up the Victims in all our favorite Movies and show ya how they were made. I'm James A. Janisse, and today we're looking at Disney's 'Atlantis: The Lost Empire', released in 2001.
if you pause at the right moment in the scene where Leviathan shoots their submarine with a blue lazer the first time (I think), you can catch the frame where the workers are shown as skeletons in agonizing poses 💀
I remember absolutely LOVING that movie as a kid, I was the type of kid that loved the more obscure film (such as Quest for Camelot, Black Cauldron, and Kirikou and the Sorceress.)
Yeah, even 2 backgrounds charakters, I would consider quite memorable, if they had more time. Two mechanics, with obe having a very long beard, that even where in one of these submarine-starfighters. One even said "we will never come out alive" before just that happened. Respect.
A glorious film with a brilliant and diverse cast.
And it still hit deep when hundreds died before my eyes. I kept thinking of the backstories for the guys who didn't make it out of that boiler room. Then a year later I got to see that AGAIN in Titanic on VHS
I almost want Disney to remake it, as maybe it would do better NOW than the first time, as the first time it was Disney trying something new. But given as their remakes tend to suck and the original still holds up perfectly, maybe just re-release it.
How about Tarzan, where we see the onscreen death of an infant gorilla and the visible corpses (with bloody pawprints) of the titular character's parents within minutes of each other at the BEGINNING OF THE FILM? Nothing says traumatizing your childhood like Disney Renaissance!
The infant was, though. As it scrambles to get away, the leopard leaps in and grabs it before jumping out of frame to eat before we cut to its parents’ horrified and sad reactions.
Yeah, it was weird. It seemed so rushed, & it concentrated mostly on those Happy Meal toys & tie-ins. I guess Disney was coming off a winning streak & they figured it would be a hit regardless.
Given how the other live action remakes have been so far. I think it's a blessing that all three of those films are too much of "cult classics" to get a live action remake.

Also very fun movie.
I don't know what to think about that
SO MAD

I hadn't ever thought about the body count til this skeet 🤣

Anyways, I'm gonna go watch it again now that you've reminded me it's been a little while-
No more Chinese Laundry.
A glorious film with a brilliant and diverse cast.

Thanks making me explain that lol
Mulan.
Atlantis.
Can't get over the aesthetic.
Disney protagonist responsible for highest body count
"No man ever outdid a woman when it came to love, or war"
- Danny DeVito, The War of the Roses
On another note, I can't believe this movie isn't more popular. Great side characters, geat art style and animation, I personally think it's fantastic
And kind of want to now rank Disney movies based off of body count.
Funniest shit I've ever seen!
