Alan wake 2,
I adored the first one so much and the second one is absolutely amazing.
I love both protagonists a lot but especially Alan is just a fascinating character.
His action feel so grounded that I can completely understand why he does the things he does.
95% of my gaming now is still on BGA, and I’m currently obsessed with Nanatoridori. I love how quick and simple it is, perfect to get in a couple plays between tasks.
Stardew Valley (my therapy duh), Pokémon Brilliant Diamond (nostalgia is a hell of a drug), and Teamfight Tactics (this is just an unfortunate addiction idk what else to say)
Baldur’s Gate 3. Just finally had the funds to pick it up, and the most solid purchase I’ve made for a game in a while.
I’m just about 20-30 hours in, and just about to leave the tutorial area for the first time. I’ve started like 5 different campaigns just to see what the game has to offer.
Spelunky. It’s absolutely one of the hardest games I’ve ever played, but also a lesson in confidence. You can’t go into it feeling your way through a level slowly. You have to jump and respond as you go on pure instinct.
cyberpunk, great story mode, beautiful graphics, very immersive. i just picked it back up a few days ago after beating it 6 times. my only complaint is how the driving feels. it sucks but still great
One of my favorites is Days Gone. Have held out hope of a sequel but I understand that is not to be. I’m partial to Open World rpg games and enjoy the likes of Fallout, Witcher3, Farcry, etc… I also have enjoyed the AC and COD franchises. I’m always open to recommendations for PS5 games.
Borderlands!!! Have since I got a copy after it had been out a year on my PS3. It was the first game I ever bought DLC for and actually made me fall in love with gaming again. Plus it’s my stress relief to just go in that world and shoot stuff since I work in a field that is mentally taxing
Definitely Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Arguably the best Pokémon game in recent history. It’s a refreshing new way of playing and has some of the best features.
Mount & Blade 2 currently, the game is like crack to me. Start off as just like a nameless party of people and end up expanding so much to form your own kingdom. Lots of RPG elements by making your own character and tons of RTS gameplay by commanding your troops of the battlefield
Right now it is Spirit Island. I love the asymmetry that doesn't try to be completely balanced. Also, I've barely played the new Nature Incarnate content, which has me excited. And maybe most of all, I love co-op games but hate alpha gamers or playing by committee. That's mostly gone here.
I keep coming back to Vlaada Chvatil's TASH KALAR all the time. After hundreds of games it keeps tension alive. It takes some time to understand it, but when you're in... wow!
I think it is a great design with a lot of strategy and a touch of luck that makes it very exciting. Do you like it?
I’m obsessed with Guild Wars2!! The thrill of world vs world. Your team against 2 other teams to take towers, castle and keeps. It has the option to do stories, skills and much more.
fields of mistria! i'm obsessed with the retro art style and the game itself is just a delight, all the characters are so likable and there's so much to do in your farm and around town, days go by super fast.. its a good recommendation for cozy gamers and farming + otome enjoyers ✨
Baldur's Gate 3. I'm really obsessed with it. I like the fighting mechanics! And the story development is very smooth and overall the game is very well made. Currently on my 4th playthrough and not going to stop anytime soon...
Okay so I’m never not obsessed with Codenames, because it’s the *perfect* simple ludological implementation of lots of neat things about language and shared communication.
But now there’s a mobile app for it that adds a whole new fun layer of bullshit:
I play at least one game of Chakra at BGA almost every day. 10 minutes at most, rare 2-player game that I like, whoever is most efficient probably wins, a couple of modules that extend but don't change the game.
If I still played games in person I'd probably have got a physical copy a year ago.
Pagan: Fate of Roanoke. I love the asymmetry and the pressure you feel as the witch trying to bluff or the hunter trying to deduce the true witch but it's punishing to be wrong!
Cyberpunk 2077, for me it has everything. I love its RPG elements and how, I can play action or stealth, it has side stories/missions that are good and well done and I just overall I love Night City.
It's beautifully simple but devilishly addictive, also the lack of complex controls means you are always one-step away from complacency and defeat and it makes for an ever sweeter experience when you don't die.
Not to mention the art style is gorgeous and the music is fun
Subnautica because I've watched ppl play it many times but I've never actually played it myself. Also I've never watched a playthrough of the 2nd one, so I want to try it myself
Stardew Valley. I like base building games and I just need something chill these days. At a certain point money just rolls in and I can just build the beautifully decorated farm of my dreams
Agreed. I play daily, even if it's just a couple of races to get the reward for daily marathon but the fact they continue to add tracks and cars keeps it fresh. Here's to them listening to us and adding Pikes Peak to the game.
Never really got Elden Ring when it launched, got maybe 10 hours in before just losing interest. Tried it again last month and something clicked and now I can't put it down. I'm horrible at it but it's been VERY FUN.
So a few years ago I got sucked into Age of Steam and there is so much variety from maps built in the basic rules that I kind of feel like I should call it a system rather than a game.
Race for the Galaxy. It just clicks in my brain once I learned the symbols. Got to meet Tom Lehmann at GenCon a few years back and he invited me to play. One of my fav boardgame memories.
Tabletop? Marvel United since season 3 got delivered and DC got funded, but I always return to Arcadia Quest.
Video? Disney Dreamlight Valley for my cozy time vibes; Genshin Impact even after 4 years for the stories; and Fortnite because it has BR, Racing, Rock Band, and Lego now.
Planet Coaster 2. Not as much for the park management, or the coaster building stuff. However, I can get lost in the details of building the architecture, the pathways, etc. Crazy for me, just cause I was never into Minecraft.
Tabletop: Probably Pokémon TCG. My friend and I got into it this year and are enjoying it a lot. Very easy to play casually.
Video games: Valheim! I love this game. Just broke 1,000 hours played earlier this week. Current playthrough is a slower-paced one. I'm just taking my time.
World of Warcraft. Been playing for over 20 years on and off but Dragonflight stuck with me and now TWW. TWW needs to get it's shit together though to keep me.
For the entire month of october I was playing graveyard keeper nonstop.
It's basically stardew valley if you were a mortician. A macabre "farm-life" sim game
Just got 100% achievement completion!
killer7. i love puzzle games and the fact that they made a rail shooter into one is so fascinating to me. its so rare to play a game where the style IS the substance.
Just started Far Cry 6, and it seems particularly fitting today. Liberating my beleaguered country from a fascistic dictator thru guerrilla tactics and improvised weaponry just hits. I know I’ll never be as cool as Dani, but that’s the escapism, right?
Throne and Liberty (TAL) ...it's from the NCSoft team that created Guild Wars 2. As an MMO it's great. They must have gone and studied 5-6 other RPGs etc. and picked or improved some of the best features and timesaving adjustments. Also, really nice graphics.
This game where I teach my 7-year old nephew to drive my car, and then tell him he has to get to certain points within the city in under 5 minutes. It emulates crazy taxi perfectly.
The Bazaar. I don’t have a beta key but can’t stop watching it and cannot wait for it to come to mobile. Hearthstone meets Backpack Battles. Incredible gameplay loop!!
I started a new playthrough after they released mods and it’s completely changed the game for me. The adjustable party limit makes the game so much more enjoyable and more customization. It was the perfect time to jump back into the game!
the entire monster hunter series as of late feels like such a refreshing vacation from triple A industry games , HIGHLY recommend world & rise to people who’ve never tried it
Endeavor: Deep Sea. Something about the simplicity and value of choices you’re presented, and the changing focus over the multiple scenarios. It’s fast and engaging without unnecessary complexity (imho)
Kanban EV, by Vital Lacerda. Pretty quick setup and teardown for a dense game. I love that the endgame is player triggered, and so, like On Mars, more players doesn't increase the playtime by a factor of four. Likewise, the scoring is partly player driven: players use each other's score cards.
Really loving Webfishing rn. So easy to just relax and have fun. One of the few games with pretty much zero iritation in gameplay or mechanics. And its so new that i can only imagine what will be added and what it may look like months from now
I would say ITO, because while it has the DNA of wavelength (or the same game) and the mind, it feels fresh. What's fascinating is the whole game is essentially just talking and arguing about what people perceive the value of their cards. For the price point, you can't beat it (5P + recommendation)
Phasmophobia. It's not amazing by any means but I've been playing with my wife, her sister and the sisters boyfriend and it's just nice to game with a group for the first time in a while.
nier automata & replicant. just did a panel at an anime convention recently about religion and philosophy in the games. i like to analyze games in this way as a passion project with my fiancé, who is getting a phd in history.
the games are so intricately crafted with these nuances. it's nuts.
I'm so head down on prototypes being pitched to me that it's hard to be obsessed with a finished game right now. My mind is more on what makes a simple game a game players want to return to.
I finished God of War and Ragnarok a couple of months ago and I still think about the amazing character development, especially Kratos and the absolutely beautiful ending from Ragnarok and I just loved it so much that I feel everyone, especially father's need to play those games.
It's Witcher Old World. I love a sandbox storyteller, where players can weave a path through a bunch of random story bits while trying to achieve their mechanical goals. We create so much extra story, trying to fit those bits together, and often hilariously.
Spirit Island has been my on/off obsession since I played the intro, Horizons, at Essen a couple of years ago. No game has hit the table more often since. Currently also obsessing about Arcadia Quest and trying to find a KS edition somewhere
Been fully enamored with Metaphor: ReFantazio for the last few weeks, it's hitting all of my JRPG marks and is all of the best parts of Persona with better combat and story imo
Metal Gear Phantom Pain - Only ever played MGS1 before and then fell off. Then GiantBomb put up their metal gear scanlon series and I watched them all. I’m 60 hours in now, loving the ridiculous of it, enjoying the story. It’s just a really really good action shooter.
Marvel Champions - it's fast, infinitely replayable and has really satisfying deck construction. The community for the game is also really friendly, which is always a plus!
Frostpunk; I had it in my Epic games library forever and only recently got to playing it. Turns out that it's really engaging and has quite a bit of replayability.
Twilight Imperium & Star Wars Unlimited. The first is deep and multi player space chess. The second is quick and easy to play, but offers new ways to play cards.
NieR because even on revisits I find new subtleties that make me reflect on the characters and the world. All three games were fantastic and I mourn the loss of Reincarnation.
Sky Children of the Light from thatgamecompany. It's nice and relaxing, even if you dont listen to the soundtrack (which is great btw). You get to fly around wherever you want, customize your character, and there's deep lore about the ruined civilization you now inhabit ☺️☺️
Top 3 of my favorite series:
1) Wolfenstein. Pew pewing Nazis.
2) Dishonored. They don’t make em like this no more. 😭
3) Bioshock. Played a pivotal role in my one of the first games I played!
Currently playing Persona 5 Royal. Beat Persona 3 Reload a few months back and it was amazing! Love having a good long jrpg and I like the more slice of life moments to break up dungeons
I’ve always been obsessed with Cruelty Squad. Such a weird and unique world and visual style with nearly limitless freedom. One of my favorites of all time.
I never was into GTA games but I have been playing a lot of GTA online recently, it's probably mostly because I like grindy games like Warframe and modded Minecraft.
I just finished playing Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door on GameCube. I had started it years ago, but never finished. Completed it in a few weeks and finally beat the pit of 100 trials! I’ve never felt more accomplished
Xia. As one of the weird people that liked No Man’s Sky when it launched. It gives the same feeling of being thrust into a universe you don’t know and having to learn to navigate your way through it as you go. It’s also just good dice throwing fun
Zenless Zone Zero. Even when all the current content is finished and you're just doing daily stuff it's never boring. The game just feels fun like Genshin wasn't for me. Plus I'm always hyped when new content is released. Plus the characters are all pure goon bait
Just had a new friend over for game night and I once again got to share my love for Get Bit! It's the perfect ice breaker game, with toyetic elements, enough strategy to get the brain in a gaming headspace, but it's as fun to lose as it is to win.
I was obsessed with a tower defence game called Isle of Arrows. It was addictive and I no longer play it. However, I also love Overcrowd, which is friendlier en keeps me entertained for just long enough without making me obsessed. Obsession with a game is not a good thing for me.
Comments
It has that interactivity i always wish pokemon had.
Best story, relationships, compelling story, and space husband's.
Thane Krios and Garrus Vakarian !
I adored the first one so much and the second one is absolutely amazing.
I love both protagonists a lot but especially Alan is just a fascinating character.
His action feel so grounded that I can completely understand why he does the things he does.
I love talking about the game its characters and theories I have so much
I hope you’ll enjoy it
PWH and Dr Finn really hit it out of the park with this one (to no one’s surprise!)
I’m just about 20-30 hours in, and just about to leave the tutorial area for the first time. I’ve started like 5 different campaigns just to see what the game has to offer.
Because it’s the most elegant game about synchronizing with others.
I love it and dream to be able to create something similar.
I think it is a great design with a lot of strategy and a touch of luck that makes it very exciting. Do you like it?
Terraria: Grinding bosses and rare stuff (Expert mode is hard though…)
But now there’s a mobile app for it that adds a whole new fun layer of bullshit:
What if the spymaster couldn’t see what the operatives were guessing?
What if, once per game, you could peek before guessing? Or do a called shot with the revealed word’s team skipping their next turn?
Just *neat* experimentation with an already great game.
If I still played games in person I'd probably have got a physical copy a year ago.
Also I want to actually try to beat the game at least once because I am trying to actually finish more games lol
Not that I'm complaining, it's great.
It's beautifully simple but devilishly addictive, also the lack of complex controls means you are always one-step away from complacency and defeat and it makes for an ever sweeter experience when you don't die.
Not to mention the art style is gorgeous and the music is fun
For regular games, definitely Baldurs Gate 3.
Always have tons of fun
Video? Disney Dreamlight Valley for my cozy time vibes; Genshin Impact even after 4 years for the stories; and Fortnite because it has BR, Racing, Rock Band, and Lego now.
#IYKYK
Its like Vampire Survivors and Devil May Cry had a lovechild they spoiled for its entire childhood.
Video games: Valheim! I love this game. Just broke 1,000 hours played earlier this week. Current playthrough is a slower-paced one. I'm just taking my time.
CocaCola, aliens, mutants, sci-fi pulp, horror, apocalypse, music, etc.
It's basically stardew valley if you were a mortician. A macabre "farm-life" sim game
Just got 100% achievement completion!
Always gets me addicted when I start a new world and they recently published a really good DLC.
Fuck Gandhi and his insistence on building nukes though 😂
I started a new playthrough after they released mods and it’s completely changed the game for me. The adjustable party limit makes the game so much more enjoyable and more customization. It was the perfect time to jump back into the game!
Can't stop playing it ..
And I don't know why...
I just can't stop playing it 🤣🤣
Why?
1) amazing plot
2) amazing characters
3) connects with me on a deep personal lvl
Johnny's fight against entropy is pretty much my mantra now 😂
YOU THOUGHT MY PUNK PHASE WAS OVER MUM, BUT IT WAS JUST ON VACATION AHAHAHAHAH BURN CORPO SHIT 🔥✊🏻
https://youtu.be//DJcdy9Rkhus
the games are so intricately crafted with these nuances. it's nuts.
I love the characters of Genshin.
I just love Dragon Age in general a lot and have been a fan for years
1) Wolfenstein. Pew pewing Nazis.
2) Dishonored. They don’t make em like this no more. 😭
3) Bioshock. Played a pivotal role in my one of the first games I played!
It’s just the pick up and put down as and when needed to get that gaming itch done in between work and family.
Going deeper, Used to love loosing hours in Empire Earth or Total annihilation..memories
just feels great to play
