I've just been sent down a rabbit hole. I had to Google what a bunnicula was? The only killer rabbit I knew of in 1979 was Monty Python.
Now I've got to go back and learn history....
The idea that there is Bunnicula and Frankenweenie could suggest a whole Animal Universe of classic monsters. The Mudfish as The Creature from the Black Lagoon is kinda hilarious on its own too lol
White Carolina variety breed strawberry. Not a pur pineberry.
I’ve tasted these many times working at Driscoll’s alongside my good friend, Phil Stewart, Lead Strawberry Breeder (not GMO, normal farming breeding test plots, etc)
Those are the sweetest and most delicious! I love the white strawberry breed. Not kidding, these are amazing. They are not unripe, this is a variety grown this way on purpose.
It is! There's a children's book series about a rabbit vampire who only feeds on fruits and vegetables and is told from the perspective of the housecat and dog who live with him!
What a wonderful reference that I hope lots and lots of people get! My son has yet to read any of them, but when he does he will finally understand why I sometimes lean in and whisper conspiratorially, “The celery stalks at midnight.”
If those are pineberries, I had them for the first time the other day and they're fabulous. Also did a blind taste test versus some normal and high end strawberries and they came out on top!
Not pine berries but a variety of the strawberry very similar. And yes, they are AMAZING! I’d buy them hands down over the red variety. I used to work with leading strawberry breeders and have tasted all types grown around the globe. These were my #1.
“Fun” fact, I wasn’t allowed to participate in the class group reading of Bunnicula when I was in 2nd grade, because it wasn’t okay with my parents for religious reasons.
These aren't actually strawberries. They are pineberries and they are real. They do actually lack the red color of strawberries. I used to work for a company delivering produce and I would deliver these once in a while.
Absolutely! I haven’t thought about that story in years, but I remember our school librarian reading it to us. 😄 Wasn’t there a dog named ‘Howie’ or something in the series?
Weirdly enough they made a Bunnicula cartoon not too long ago but as far as I can tell it was mostly in name only and didn't seem much like what I remember from the books at all.
I’m 90% sure those are pineberries, a cross between pineapples and strawberries.
Really they’re mostly strawberries with a slightly pineapple texture and… you know the feeling you get as the pineapple digests you back? That but less.
I grew a few of these from seed but I doubt they will fruit true because they are a hybrid. I’m looking forward to seeing if I get any vampire berries but I would be super happy with a mixed plant.
They haven’t started blooming yet, but they should soon.

I’ve never heard of it before.
I just liked the word play!

Least likely to contain mold, bites nice and crisp, more sour than sweet.
Perfect except it doesn’t look like the model strawberries in magazines.
And Chester the cat!

grown in the dark
Some taste like regular strawberries and some have a strawberry pineapple type of flavor
Bunnicula doesn't drink. ...Wine.
There are these wire haired daschunds in my neighborhood and every time I see them I fight the urge to yell ‘werewolves!’
