I think there is a small but real (10-15%?) chance that both Roberts and Coney Barrett get negatively polarized over the next couple of years and start drifting left on everything but their core issues (voting rights for Roberts, abortion for Coney Barrett).

Gorsuch is an odd case because his ideology is already a bit quirky and his likely pet issue (rejecting any limits on business/corporate power) is quite broad.

When Gorsuch was first nominated to the court, a Dem mutual who knew him personally swore up and down that Gorsuch was an honorable guy who would never be a toadie for Donald Trump. Instead, Gorsuch turned out to be like Smeagol with the ring. I'm skeptical that he'll stand up for the Constitution.

I won’t litigate what “sign up” really means here, but I do think Roberts worked intentionally to obfuscate how political and motivated his reasoning has been in supporting the GOP’s cause, and he is loathe to see not the result but the light being shined on his role in all of this
