It pains me to say given we covered the most recent report, but I don't have any faith in them. Inrix make claims about "the world's most congested cities" when their data misses out whole continents. And they once claimed traffic is a matter or supply and demand, which is utter bollocks.

I'm not sure I really understand their basic methodology. They explain it as "a range of data" but it's all pretty opaque.

It’s not just that they don’t compare all cities, their measurement of congestion is amateurish and takes no account of modal share. Their base line is also travel at 30mph. On this basis even if only 1% of journeys were by car London would still count as the most congested city

"average person spends 101 hours in traffic per year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average person spends 0 hours in traffic per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in car & drives over 10,000 miles each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

I think that quote demonstrates the error. Infix assumes everyone is a driver, ignoring, for example, that <10% of trips to central London are by car. If it said “the average driver…” it would be better.

If only London had a regional authority like Ile de France around it and a bunch of RER lines too. Big cities have a strong regional pull in terms of services and the economy, it makes sense to have 1 authority for all of the region.
