If we had seen the attack on Donald Trump only through television footage, it would have appeared shocking, but also chaotic and muddled, our critic writes. The still images of the assassination attempt tell another story.

Oh FO with this fluff. Trump was discussing how he was going to deport millions (after rounding them up and putting them in prisons), that his cult members were cheering at the time. NYT called them "gleeful" They are gleeful like a mass murderer after his 10th kill is gleeful.
Wouldn't it save you time to just say that you are completely and irrevocably in the tank for Trump because you think his re-election will be better for your bottom line, no matter how many people genuinely suffer as a result? Stop being such gutless cowards.
Why do I suspect this will be uncovered as orchestrated by Trump’s people? There’s no floor to how bizarre and appalling their stunts. Their behaviour over many years suggests gaslighting is their preferred method of communication. The Trump images aren’t iconic. They’re merch.
When you endorse trump like you are doing now, you're also endorsing all his future acts as a president. You're also endorsing what he did in his 1st term, like kids in cages. What is so appealing to you NYTimes about kids in cages?
The television footage shows what happened. Still images are curated and need context provided, which allows you to tell the narrative you want to tell. No surprise which one you prefer.
It is really something for a news organization to argue, with a straight face, that even though people saw how it actually happened, if you are able to lie through photographs, that is not a lie but in fact just another "story."
Thomas Mathew Cooks was nearly my hero. Unfortunately he missed. The key to understanding orange boy's logic is he describes himself when describing all others that opposed him; it's called projection.
Project 2025 & the federalist society are evil. Anyone who votes GOP is a traitor to Democracy.
As is often the case, the article itself isn’t as bad as the headline. It’s just so much navel gazing about the power of images with no context or judgement about the person in the image. Which is obviously still not great, especially coupled with the headline.
In defiance of a 20-year-old GOP boy with a guy while Secret Service surrounds him (Trump not the boy) and hustles him away at the first sound of gunfire. Got. It.
Still images have an immense conductive capacity. That is why authoritarians love striking power projecting poses at photo ops. More than a thousand words.
This is why I canceled my subscription. So pathetic to prostitute an occasionally fine news organization to elect a would-be tyrant who will bring ruin to the already weakened Fourth Estate. We will not forget your betrayal to democracy

Mediocre white guy
Please enough with your deification.
I’d be OK with “personification”, followed by apt descriptors.
Who edits your headlines and what job are they gunning for in a Project 2025 America?
But this paper would rather focus on the pro-Trump propaganda potential of the photo.
What a morally bankrupt take. Fuck you.

Weird.
