Yeah that's exactly how tariffs work and some people are so God damn stupid that not only do they not know that but they don't f****** look it up and educate themselves
Though he'll also need ingredients from them, that he's also decided to pay above asking price for, sophisticated Chinese food will be both more expensive and more complicated
And I want to know if you fried breaded Rocket Raccoon in a little bacon grease with lentils and split peas, would he go better with a red or white wine?
I'm thinking if it tastes like American Bald Eagle.....a white!
I’m thinking in terms of Trump wanting to immediately bring back manufacturing jobs to the US, but companies don’t have the factories built yet, or the labour force to work minimum wage.
Actually, that's not how tariffs work. You're not paying the restaurant, you're paying a third party who unilaterally decided you should pay them, in addition to the restaurant. Both you and the restaurant suffer.
Hmm, not really. You’ve agreed to pay your local council a sum every time you go for a Chinese. Unfortunately, your council won’t benefit from your generosity so much, cos they’ll have to pay staff to take your money, and then Elon Musk will probably turn up to say that isn’t very productive so…
Don't forget, you also don't have access to the necessary tools or skills to make your own Chinese food. But by forcing yourself to pay them more, you will magically suddenly have all those things...sometime.
More that doordash charges you higher delivery fees because the restaurant isn't doing what doordash wants. It's not like the restaurant gets more money or higher profit margins out of this BS. they don't want doordash to get the money either.
You forgot the part about the corporate oligarch over charging their supplier and getting the kickback and tax exemption…. But hey, isn’t that Trump trickle down?
I had to think this over several times and read the comments to realize this wasn't actually how they work, but how they are telling people it works, because it didn't make sense 😂
When I lived in Osaka, the Chinese restaurant at the Hilton used to have an AYCE (no special menu either – anything from milk-braised abalone to roast lobster in black bean sauce) on weekends for a mere ¥10,000.
Good times.
Thanks for using #AltText; I don't need it, but a lot of my friends do!
In this scenario you have added that fee at the grocery store too. So you will be settling for fried rice made with old soy sauce packets from the junk drawer.
I know you're going for simplicity. But don't you technically pay your "asset manager" (taxes paid to the government) for the privilege of going to the Chinese restaurant?
I’ve put away a hundred dollars and if I stay away from sweets I get to keep it, if I cheat it goes to charity. Maybe Trump is doing that. All that insider trading money going to cancer? Not on your life.
Yes there is - we (Trump) decided to pay higher prices to the Chinese restaurant. The Chinese restaurant didn't raise its prices (initially). Actually since we've been such twats about purchasing regularly from them, the Chinese restaurant has stopped giving us a credit tab.
I made up an order for chinese food earlier and after seeing how much they wanted for it, AND that they wanted to charge me a "$1 online order fee", I decided not to buy it.
We're going to be seeing a lot of that. Not the $1 fee so they don't have to talk to me on the phone, the other thing.
When facing a trade deficit with another nation, the United States should not punish that other nation with tariffs and taxes, but instead learn what that nation needs and then produce goods and services in order to balance the deficit
That is exactly how countries in economist have used trade deficits as a way to determine how to better compete in the marketplace, but our idiot president thinks it means that the country is ripping us off. Which by the way if the deficit goes the other way, would mean we’re ripping them off.
I would be miserable in a sweatshirt factory job earning $.13 an hour like the people who make my clothing. We traded away these jobs so that we could do different jobs. But the only jobs Donald Trump knows are blow jobs and snow jobs.
Problem is a lot of us don't have training for those different jobs. Than the US complains they have shortages in all these industries. Simply becuase training is too difficult
I'm sorry to be the one to deliver the news: at the rate that prices are skyrocketing and the US dollar depreciating, only billionaires will be able to afford Crab Rangoon. How about settling for just a fortune cookie?
Not to mention you are the richest person in the neighbourhood by far, you don’t normally make Chinese food, and you cry because you can’t understand why the Chinese restaurant does not want to buy your 7-11 corn dog.
I hate analogies but this one is getting closer to describing the tariff fiasco than many I have seen. That is exactly what is happening at my house. Made great cashew broccoli the other night for the first time in my 74 years. The restaurant hasn’t lost be completely but…
I love crab rangoon. It's always been much cheaper to make at home and has few ingredients but somehow seems like a giant pain in the ass for 6 rangoon.
And you never actually get into the habit of cooking your own Chinese food (it really turns out not to be cost effective and is very time consuming) so you just get used to paying more for Chinese.
Tariffs, Hell!
I'll give the local Chinese restaurant 100$ for their Pad Thai recipe.
Or, another one..
This restaurant called Ping's, had the most AMAZING beef curry, and mock duck curry.
From Minneapolis, omg!
Mouth orgasm.
😋🥳😋
Oh, we’re talking about Chinese food I live in the East Bay of San Francisco Bay Area. We have some really good Chinese food here . there’s a Szechuan place. Those peppercorns are amazing.
Trump’s policies are crazy, because you don’t want just any production in the US. Instead you should aim for high value added production. This requires science and innovation. So it’s not wise to weaken universities. The task is not to turn the US from a developed country into a developing country.
No, you don't want to pay them extra, you want to pay yourself a little more on top of what you're paying them. That will teach you to have a Chinese food deficit!

Had a “cow” at first but it didn’t sound very good.
If you travel to the restaurant (by air…), then you pay them the standard price. But you can’t, so you get it delivered.
And the delivery dude just had a massive price increase. So you decide to cook at home. Fine. But all the fixins come from that place anyway. Oops.
I guess you could always plant a garden … or buy a farm, but that’s way more than paying the delivery dude.
Think Trump can understand the simplicity of the explanation?

In no point in my life will I ever turn it down.
If I ever do, just know that's not me.
So we buy more from them than they buy from us is the deficit
Took their defict LESS our exports/2 = New Tariff Tax?
Bissent could NOT answer the question of WHY do this....on FOX & Friends???

(Though, not voluntarily, and the the extra doesn’t go to the restaurant but the doorman / land lord / highwayman for letting in the delivery guy.)
So when are Szechuan peppercorns and Chinese black vinegar going to be domestic?
A tariff parallel would be paying THE GOVERNMENT extra so you make Chinese food at home
Good times.

We're going to be seeing a lot of that. Not the $1 fee so they don't have to talk to me on the phone, the other thing.
But at least the guy in charge has dementia and doesn't even know where he is right now. That'll solve this problem in time.

Also good example.

Consumerism
If the restaurant could use that money to improve the lives of staff, condition of the restaurant, or use better ingredients, that wouldn't be so bad.

This is how tariffs work. 😂😂😂😂
Hope all these luxury brands enjoy their Trump bankruptcy court. 🤣🤣🤣
