Most government employees have a right to due process and can only be fired for cause which includes insubordination, illegal activity, violating policy, security breaches. They call appeal the firing to Merit Systems Protection Board whose members are appointed by Prez and confirmed by Senate.

The Board members are both Republicans and Democrats. It is nonpartisan. Biden appointed the last two member. They are protected just like the IGs are. Have to have just cause to fire. The Federal Court of Appeals hears the cases. trump is going to come across roadblocks and this is one of them.

I’m a federal worker who has received two emails from OPM, both of which are flagged “from external source” but have an OPM address as sender. Many workers reported the first email as phishing. My chain of command has provided no guidance, staying mum - which is very unusual. It’s very stressful.

Interior sent out an all-employee email after the first one to say it was legit. Sketchy, but not phishing. Also, the external source flag just means it came from outside your department, not outside the government. Happens to every email between DOI and USDA.

I'm at Treasury. I got an email from my campus director advising me to treat those emails as legit, which is why I ignored them instead of sending them to the phishing address
