She said (in English) "One Euro asshole—and I am NOT your Cheri!"
Years of practice down the drain.
Dos té would have been easier
Imagine being Italian, French, Portuguese or German... they don't have the /θ/ ("th" as in "think") sound, just like 90% of native Spanish speakers, who'd say "servesas".
Spanish teacher tried to get me to say hacer ejercicio. (Hather eher-thithio)
No!
Germans, Dutch and Arabs have no issues with it.
90% of native Spanish speakers make a much softer /x/ sound, often closer to /h/ (like a hard H). Then, they’d say: "aser ehersisio" 😉
Where in Spain, or Latin America, do they use the 'th' sound?
PS thanks for the interest!
Me: Come on, give me a break. I’m trying to do this in French.
Nice girl: Yeah, but I’m Dutch
😟
Apparently good directions though.

He responded for about a full minute, gesturing wildly.
I said, grazie and had to come back and tell my husband that he didn't know where the Sistine chapel was. 😁
I asked in Italian
But the vendor leaned out of his truck and shouted, “Where did you learn Italian? From a cassette tape!”

Once stopped a woman and asked in Italian where the station was
She stared at me then asked if I want answer in Eng or Italian!
I opted for English but repeated everything in Italian
Then we had a lovely short conversation - her English was great
Everyone seemed to appreciate any effort we made at speaking Italian.
One waiter in Milan was apparently giving my husband a big thumbs up when I paid for a meal with my credit card. He seemed to think I was his sugar mama
Yes - they did appreciate the effort to speak Italian and that made the whole experience much more fun
Everyone should travel and do their best to immerse themselves in the local language and culture!
Server: warmly greets me, offers me table…and presents me with menu labeled ‘English’
We laughed; shared stories; had great meal!
The menu is in English.
There are plenty of bistros around where Italian is a requirement.
If you can't be bothered to order the whole damn Happy Meal, we're over before we began.
walking past the drive thru at McDonald's and he told these cute girls
he'd recommend the
Filet mignot.
40 yrs later, every time I go to McDonald's I'm tempted to ask how
it's doing today.
"French fries aren't french" 🤓
My friend: I didn't know you understood French!
Me: I don't but this is the closest I'm ever going to get to international travel.
Gratzi. E non dimenticare il ketchup!"

My kids tire of me saying it.

I tried to read it phonetically from the menu board at the counter in Berlin in 1993.
Hey I made them laugh.

The difference between anos & años....I never saw her again without her falling about in hysterics.
