If you can’t get a burner, definitely log out of everything & uninstall apps. You can reinstall apps later & still have access without losing info in them. As for texts, just clear the entirety. Set the screen auto lock & your passcode super long too so they don’t have patience to wait.

I’m no conspiracy theorist. However, airports in particular have state of the art facial recognition. They scan your ID or Passport. It would not be difficult to flag “dissidents” that they identify through publications, media appearances, social media, journalists, etc. and disappear them/us.

Can you imagine the experience of traveling by air without a smartphone? Beside the need to store images of boarding passes, there is also the need to use maps and find local transportation. Also, not carrying a phone is an act that draws suspicion.

Awful behaviour by border guards in USA is not new, though the tethers have clearly been loosened and the characteristics that draw attention have shifted. Many of these roles are filled by ex-military.

I had an academic colleague denied entry because going to a conference sounded like work. ~2005.

In Trump 1.0 years, my daughter re-entered US from semester at LSE in London where she had taken human rights courses. They must have profiled her from passport/flight manuscript, because when she reached CBP, they stopped her and showed her photographs of herself walking through the airport. 1/n
