The fact that it looks like it’s going to be pretty tough to build any kind of sizable MMA audience on this app seems both good and bad. It’s also a reflection of the homogenization of the wider MMA fan base.

UFC PPV's becoming Trump infomercials over the last few months was a big turn-off for a lot of people. There's a large audience on here for combat sports; things were hopping here for the Paul-Tyson fight, particularly during the undercard.
not having bought a PPV in a couple of years I bought UFC 309 on a whim. upon seeing trump, elmo, and RFK Jr in the first five minutes of the broadcast I immediately regretted it.
It might be better here for interesting conversation and interaction with reasonable fans of the sport, while the other place is still awesome if you love Russian propaganda bots and extremely hateful and ignorant comments. X is still better if you love being spammed by accounts you've already muted
I deleted my Twitter account, so this is all I've got now. Hopefully it grows a bit. I miss some of the funny shit and live reactions to cards the most.
I should’ve clarified that I was looking for one with media personalities that didn’t quite operate like a hashtag (looking for something organized). Someone just suggested one that looks good 👍🏾
Most didn’t disengage at the revelation of a political slant…it wasn’t until we were drowned in it. It’s going to take a while for folks to realize the water here isn’t filled with overwhelming dork shit. But once they do, I’d bet an audience will reemerge.
I've seen mutuals saying Bluesky is a nice break from the usual noise and doom on X. And maybe that's good enough for now. I've been enjoying the conversations here.
It was basically a ghost town on here during the PPV. But with the UFC becoming so right wing, so many terrible cards, and fighter pay being so bleak it’s actually made me become so much less invested in the product.
I’m glad I’m not the only one starting to feel like this. 10 years ago I watched every card from early prelims, every event. Now I mostly keep up with the sport through podcasts 😕
I run the MMA Sky feed and I’ve been putting in a lot of effort to try to improve it’s overall quality, but there’s still a bunch of limitations I’m dealing with between not being a professional programmer and limitations of its current host.
MMA, despite it being my second favorite sport, has terrible online circles OR I just don't know where to look. Further, I'm interested in other promotions beyond UFC and even Bellator. Combat sports is a weird little space online (for me).
Yeah I thought MMA wasn't for me because I'm not at all part of that crowd. I really enjoy watching the technical mastery of the fights. I don't enjoy seeing republican politicians every 5 seconds
I like MMA and have watched for 15 years but it being so right wing coded combined with the UFC's inability to make anyone but Dana White into a star has really pushed me out of following it regularly, but also I'm here so I'm sure all that correlates.
Tbh, that's never going to happen and most people are hypocritical about it. I see this in soccer too. Right-wingers say keep politics out then celebrate right-wing players being anti-LGBT.
Yeah, I've been pulling away from mma for a while. Dana and the embrace of the shitosphere of ballbaggery that makes up the bulk of the current Fandom has seen to that
If you (Luke) post a missive on Xitter, and you get 2,500 comments with about 100 of those bringing meaningful good faith engagement, is that a successful post?
If you do the same here and get 100 useful comments but w/out the anger/bots, what's the ruling?
I've said it before but the small accounts from Twitter have the most chance for... Fulfillment here. (Maybe not the right word.) Because they're used to doomscrolling with no engagement. I've seen mutuals with virtually no interactions on X really thrive over here. For example, I'm doing way better
Same. I do not care in the slightest if I have 25 or 250 followers but somehow managed to reach so many more people in this space than I ever did on Xitter. I enjoy not having to scroll past hundreds of ads and rage farmers.
This place will be corrupted soon enough, but I'll enjoy this while I can.
Yeah it's just a matter of time. My main thing is about degrees of how bad it gets. So long as it doesn't get as bad as X, I'm willing to navigate the ads and such.
I get plenty of *rewarding* MMA discourse via the Co Main Event Podcast discord channel, thankfully. They don't pay me to say that. I actually pay them. So that's the place to be for MMA talk but I'm enjoying the people and interactions I've had here.
Given how Bluesky is much more left wing and arts minded there’s not gonna be a huge crossover. The few takes I have seen here however seem much more mature and level headed.
After 2016 I have stopped watching almost all combat sports. They feel like WWE at this point and I don’t need that kind of drama in my life. That being said… I will still tune into international judo comps when I have time and the occasional kickboxing event

No way I’m giving them money. Not to mention PPV is just outdated in general.
They’ve really diluted their product. If they just paid better I don’t think they’d be starving for new stars.

We need more other orgs that aren't UFC. It'd be nice to see belator get a bump, but they are trying to appeal to the same people instead
Unfortunately, the UFC itself has been heavily involved in politics making that difficult.

Check out the CME if you haven't already!
Not saying that we aren't doing the same thing, but it's really obvious.
