It always bugs me whenever I see stuff like "how come modders can do this but professional devs can't"
the answer is just modders have essentially infinite time they can devote to one thing, and zero corporate bureaucracy to go through

Meanwhile many glam mods are “Aura, Mi’qo, Hyur” and can (will) never intend to add La Las or Hroth.
It’s fine, but that certainly speaks not needing to standardize for all PCs.
It's why Mojang can't add as much new content as modders can + the fact that it would lose the essence(?) of the game if they did so
also when they do add a mod into the base game it's usually more polished than the original mod (like the pistons)
End users- not being insulting here- just don't know what they don't know.
Bandai really wants to artificially inflate their games' profits by cutting basic features that fans want.
We don't need Big Budget games when we can make genuinely better games ourselves.
Let's just support indie devs instead.
the devs love the game and developing it as much as the fanbase does, but its hard with higherups in the picture
I mean, I just imagine the boss or whoever organised the meeting saying something like "Tomorrow we'll have a meeting to talk about a meeting we'll have the day after, which will be about a meeting we'll have next friday"
(je blague)
Note: it's not actually a cult... To my knowledge]
It’s fun. Sometimes more fun than others.
There's a reason full conversion mods are so rare, often janky and usually die midway through
That shit takes *FOREVER*
Take a game like The Sims
They have to make everything tame to maximise profits cuz if you made it more adult less sales
There are legitimate concerns and disagreements. But many players really need what you posted mashed into their heads.
We can't just work on things that need to be done. We don't get to prioritize our own work.
A large number of game devs could easily work in other industries and get jobs with better pay and more stable hours.
You really think talented developers would commit to weeks and months of crunch time because they lack passion?
Companies have been exploiting passion for years.
Also they aren't held back by needing to appeal to the masses. They can create something as self indulgent as they want.
Such as when a modder can fix a stuttery frame rate, or add DLSS support, or give access to more resolutions or an FOV slider, all within a day or two of release.
Look at something like Starfield, and how fast modders fixed major issues.
Also, I know that sometimes, especially at the end of a long project, you will have stared yourself blind on the thing, and outsiders can more easily see issues than you can.
If they don't care about clipping, then their work can clip all it has to. If they don't care about texture load on budget machines, they can just not think about that.
on the other i hate lazy devs who can't optimise their stupid crappy ue5 garbage
Minecraft modders: Mods and vanilla aren't the same thing
Anyone working in the gamedev industry: Mods and vanilla aren't the same thing
Posts with 10k+ likes: Modders can do more in 2 hours! Devs are lazy hacks.
And a mod would not need to have good coding practices as long as it works, which alleviates dev time too
However, that's because mod devs don'ttput nearly as much time and effort into polishing their stuff and fixing bugs as actual game devs do.
because the devs can't put one guy on one hat for two months
bit of an exaggerated example
unacceptable for official releases to do this
I have been a professional Software Developer for over 15 years, I know what I am talking about.
Also funny to say something like that for games, were qualitity has been going down for years. Look at the state some AAA games get released in
Unless it's a comprehensive overhaul, in which case it's a remodel.
...it's not a perfect metaphor.
i think when people point out that modders do x but devs can't they aren't necessarily thinking it's the devs being incompetent
sometimes it's also expressing frustration with corporate business practices
but this doesn't mean devs can't be lax, incompetent, or held back by corporate bureaucracy. it's a 2 way street imo.
it always has to be aggressive, ignorant and targeted at the devs; when usually other factors are to blame. it's exhausting.
i'm a game dev myself fwiw
Think how no mans sky or cp2077 improved.
Developers do not have such luxury, a development team can get hamstrung by losing members to other projects.
I can’t quite remember what it was exactly but like it was a free, full fan game and people where upset it wasn’t big enough.
eg I may think "it's kinda BS that modders do (whatever thing) better than Nintendo/Microsoft/Sony", but for me it's assumed that the official devs are doing their best, and that it's some sort of systemic issue instead.
Dev: We need more time.
Publisher: Sorry, we have already invested our advertising budget and we have a hard deadline. Cut this, ship it, and patch it later
Modder: Hold on, the mod needs more time. My Hot Pockets just dinged in the microwave.
Train your people well, invest in them, and you won’t need 18,000 administrators and administrative tasks to have them be successful.
FIrst obvious example is BugFix mods. In, say Fallout;New Vegas. BugtFix mods are a big thing. WHy those bugFix mods weren't incorporated into the next patch...
ALso Blizzard "Making Vanliia WoW today is impossible."
god rid of the main dev who worked on the game
took the other devs and put them on other projects,
game proceeded to get shuffled around with no focused dev team let alone any passion
As much as I dont care for the base game, I'll admit that it at least feels complete
My biggest problem is that they keep updating it instead of leaving it be so the modding scene can flourish more.
I was a beta tester for Echo-S 7, I have seen the amount of work Tsuna puts into their mods, and it isn't how you paint it.
