It's time to start planning my garden. I told my mom I'm gonna steal rocks from her backyard. (She bought a house here.) She said I couldn't but she doesn't know how many rocks are there and I neeeeeeed them

When they were digging the hole for our pool they dug up a beautiful quartz boulder. I ran out of the house like a crazy person asking them to save it.
Yep. Gotta have those rocks!
I was planning out a series of stone paths and saw what those step stones cost. Had to drive around back roads till I found as many flat rocks as I needed.
In the front range it’s Pioneer: https://www.pioneerco.com, they deliver or if you need smaller amounts you fill containers and they weigh your car before & after pickup
Oh a good rock source is the best. Out in the country (at least here in NC) there will sometimes be good piles in the woods next to agricultural fields where they piled them when clearing. My whole yard is lined with those.
I periodically check out the Craigslist Free section - people give away bricks and slate slabs pretty frequently. Not the easiest to haul, but the price is right 🤣
I visit my BFF who lives by a creek in the Ozarks a few times a summer, and I load up nice big river rocks and some river gravel in a bin whenever we're done playing in the crick for the day.
Woo-hoo! We want to try growing more food this year in ours. I went to a favorite bookstore and may have gotten a little carried away with my research… my house is on a small plot in a suburban neighborhood lol. I can dream, plot and scheme though 😜

The straight line winds rolled in at 5 this morning, greenhouse is a loss.
But the garden boxes survived.

Because you can find some interesting ones near train tracks...
(I know there are quarries near Florissant, though that is a ways)
Rocks are EXPENSIVE.
There's gotta be a lonely creek by ya in CO.
