Write to your state elected reps. Also write to your state comptroller/auditor and ask that they add it to their legislative agenda.

Additionally - North Dakota has a public bank. Shouldn't every state have one?

There'll be time for this kind of thing. But I basically agree. Whoever comes in next will explicitly need to have some kind of "civic renewal" message built around restoring what's lost. (Even building back better, if you will! But for the nation as a whole, not just the economy.)

Morally, they should. The problem with such a pledge is that it would make the job search for the newly fired harder than it already is, signaling to would-be employers that they’re only getting a rental. Better to put every bit of leverage into preventing the firings.
