Another favorite it when I use a word they don’t expect. The first time I used the term situationship (great word), I earned a double take I will never forget.
It's also the seeds of a comforting memory when (hopefully, a long time in the future) you are gone from the planet. He will come across the songs his dad shared and smile.
One time I was singing Ain't No Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant and my dad asked what song it was because he liked it and it made me so happy. Every time I hear it, I think of him. ❤️ sharing music connects us, and for the rest of his life every time he hears that song, he'll think of you.
Yessss. My nephew is only 8, but he's been telling me when to play a song again since he was 2 and I smile so big every time. The last track was Rivers & Roads - We listened for an hour straight.
Cool. As a teen, I would have never had a Benny Goodman T-shirt, but I know lots of parents whose kids are fans of music back to the Beatles. My 16 year old nephew loves to play the piano parts of “Great Gig In The Sky”. I also have to grin when I see teens wearing AC/DC and LED Zeppelin T-shirts.
I used to catch my eldest sneakily taking pictures of the Now Playing screen on the car dashboard from time to time. Now she’s putting me onto new music.
My middle kid, in an effort to show me how lame I am, snidely said they only listen to cool musicians then rattled off the names of people on my Spotify....because they share my Spotify playlist 🙄
My 14 y/o son unilaterally pulls up 1960's rock playlists when we drive around. We talk details about artists, band, vocals, guitar sound, percussion, solos, et al.
It's one way we genuinely connect despite our age difference.
What's absolutely a great feeling. Over the years my children and I have shared songs also. My playlist is full of music I normally wouldn't have listened to and vice versa
I’m 67 years old and I’ve been to 4 Joywave concerts with my daughter … dancing in the front row, singing along. We have the best time! I’m her first whenever they come to town. Also, Saint Motel, Panic! at the Disco, Young the Giant. Took her to see Andrea Boccelli when she was 3. She’s a band kid.
That's great! I go out with my kids a lot. Well they're not really kids anymore 27 and 32. Death metal concerts and everything in between. Good times. Makes me feel still alive ❤️🎶🎸
Exactly! My only is 29 and married, and whenever she says, “Hey, mom, you wanna …?” miraculously, I do. She’s an awesome kid and we have a blast. Keeping me young. Also, I really enjoy the bands she’s exposed me to.
Lots of children (and adult children) wouldn't be caught dead at a concert with their mom or dad. So kudos to your daughter! For me the metal shows are getting harder because they always want to go on the rail lol so I'm digging the sit down shows more and more 🤣
My wonderful 22 y/o daughter told me she had discovered this great singer/piano player. “Have you heard of Billy Joel?” She said. Why yes, dear daughter - Billy was only one of the biggest stars on the planet when I was a young man in the 70s.
When we were teens my sister came home to tell my parents she found the coolest new song. That song… Stairway To Heaven.
My parents are still laughing at her. 😂
Rarely happens, but Guitar Hero did introduce him to many songs I would have introduced him to, except he would never give them a chance. Still, he has introduced me to many I would not have encountered on my own, such as Death Cab For Cutie, and JET.
It is so true. And the older they get the more gratifying it is to see that you have had influence and enabled them to expand their range. It’s true of literary quotes as well as music all of a sudden you’re like they were paying attention.

Music is one of the greatest gifts to share with your loved ones.

Priceless.
After hearing my cassette my son decided he was great and he stole my cassette. :D
Almost as good is when you're listening to something and they ask you, "How do you know about this?" like they invented listening to good music.
My parents are still laughing at her. 😂

It is good that it works both ways too
Good luck ❤️
