I can’t believe how few conversations about the uses of LLMs seem to incorporate this fact. It is not a knowledge or understanding machine! It is a thing-saying machine!

They simply string the “most likely” words together in a sequence based on probability, so the results may be wrong or nonsensical, or at best, bland and generic with no insights
Most of them read like a middle-schooler cribbing from Wikipedia and changing the wording slightly.
But so can Dadaist poems made of cut up words thrown on the floor.
