I appreciate people honestly suggesting Linux but…
Spending one second of my life wondering - is this an issue because it’s running Linux?
No
I remove anxiety from my life.
I hate technology.
This is all just a tool for me to use to create outputs, I have no fascination with the machinery.

When Valve did Proton and Steam Deck, it became my daily gaming driver because I didn't have to ask this anymore. Steam is Steam on Linux, Windows, where ever.
But if someone has Perforce/Visual Studio/Photoshop workflow? Lol
As more games ship using better tech and younger staff, sure. But it's a long road ahead.
The goal is to make games as easily as possible, not be an advocate for the tools.
I'm not saying that's the wrong choice. It's why there's still COBAL running businesses in the wild. We will be long dead before the last Perforce server goes offline.
So as they stay the same, everyone else who interacts, learns, uses, goes to, leaves, etc is all tied in.
No compromise besides price lol
Im running a displayport kvm rn, and it has some quriks that could be related to how it handles screen emulation
A Linux User, the President, a Hitman, and a Cow walks into the bar. You'll find out who the linux user is first.
Unless you work in the tech industry, have specific use cases or have strong feelings on certain topics, there's no real reason to use a Linux distro over a stripped-down windows.
I love Linux, but yeah, it's def not for everyone.
Pros
-customization
-no AI
-no ads
Cons
-Some Windows apps won't work
-depending on the distro, complexity is an issue
Been on the linux train before. Got press-ganged into OS maintenance. Worst sightseeing ever
Skrunkly little guy~
Do you still have yours or has it gone to the laptop farm down the way?
Systems shutting off? Nah.
Down with the systems? Close but mhm mhm.
Systems going down? Nevermind.
Ultimately, it depends on your use case and willingness to learn.
it's about liberation; to use the hardware to the full extend possible (or most efficient), something you never have on windows and alike.
I guess it really depends what you do and which platform you can generally rely on more
I'll enjoy my stable boring system and I wish you luck on the ai subscription ads based nightmare Windows 11 has become.
I don't miss fighting and troubleshooting that nonsense and I game too much to mac.
Ironically could be talking about windows, Linux, or Photoshop. Though I'd imagine a passion project would be running a tighter ship at the beginning.
I don't think a ton of people have that experience to go off of because they've used one thing their entire lives.
I give a pass on not having the right software but that's also true with macos or Windows just less so.
Linux > macos >Windows mostly because of the tools and workflow. Use what works best of course.
My mother switched two years ago and it was a small learning curve but it's cut down on "tech support" calls dramatically. I use it for study and work daily with no fuss etc.
YouTube, social media, PowerPoint, parents booking a flight? Windows/MacOS is good enough for them.
Development, investigation, uptime stability? That changes things.

(Not to "well actually", I just thought it was funny)
yeah don't jump into Linux like others have recommended
at most smoosh it onto an old laptop
otherwise just do what's working for you
i am a technician and my job is understanding systems. it is amazing and beautiful how it comes together.
as for the actual output and use, that is up to someone else. i just want things to work.
