Well I've been working on the game since a little before Solasta was public, so it's probably more accurate to say we have similar inspiration.
The most direct inspiration would be (patched) Temple of Elemental Evil.
I've taken what I love from it and added some of the things that I missed in it.

in my prehistoric 4X, structures are built on the points between hexes, so I've been fiddling with mountain tile shapes to ensure the points next to and behind them remain visible.

it does create interesting dynamics: structures built by a tribe start off belonging to that tribe, but adjacent tribes can fight over them and claim them for themselves. structures can also be abandoned and remain unclaimed for a while. allied tribes can benefit from each other's structures

Originality BAM! :) The dice are rolled for attacks, defences, spells, and skills in combat, to check for success. You don't actually roll those dice, but they do spin and land. I got the idea from Solasta: Crown of the Magisters as it really helps make a CRPG feel like a tabletop session!
