Yeah but think of the shareholders! We could save 99.99% of our way of life. But that 0.01% runs the world and what they do goes! We are not a species trying to make sense. Just make money for the most ruthless and pscyho among us.
This is where religion is poison. Too many of the supposed faithful believe that mankind is so base, so vile, that the only hope is an afterlife. They defile Creation, all the while gleefully believing that an all-powerful diety will forgive and embrace them. This level of sloth is nauseating.
It’s hard to understand until you accept that money makes the majority of people selfish and afraid. Afraid they’ll lose their wealth even when they have so much they could never, ever spend it in a single lifetime.
I looked up a thesaurus, and it sounds more evil than "evil,"– though it still isn't a single word, maybe –"depraved, immoral, atrocious corruption and perversion" would be fitting...?
Just wondering what your mode of transportation is?
My guess is you eat, read, use for your convenience something that is made with oil.
Would that make you part of the solution or part of the problem?
Do you really need to use the words of this apologist for Pol Pot and Putin? He isn't saying anything unique. There's hundreds, thousands even who are more worthy of attention and admiration that could be quoted in his stead.
Realistically fossil fuel companies only exist because of consumer demand, pretending THEY are the sole evil and the consumers driving demand are not means you don't care about solving the problem enough to put down your ideological knives.
About the same term that describes western academics who are genocide deniers and are willing to support any dictator that is even litte against the US?
Says the guy that never bought polyester clothes, rode on a bus, drove a car, bought shoes, lived in a house…do you understand the depths of our need for oil?
Given the history of mankind, the ongoing behaviour of fossil fuel companies is not evil but usual. As with the laws of motion, to get a change in direction requires application of an external force, which would be government (too complicit) or society (too comfortable) in this case.
We are using the fossil fuel from animals and plants that no longer exist and if we continue to use the fossil fuels as humans. We too will be fossilized and will no longer exist on earth 🌍.
I choose to call them unevolved. Evil would imply intent it would imply intelligence. A bunch of people who barely know how to read let alone research chose a failed business man to fix a recovering economy. Sad part is they are literally incapable of learning anything
Professor Chomsky recognizes what we face, both economically and environmentally. We lost decades of progress in both under Trump 1.0, the remainder will be lost under Trump 2.0.
Ignorance, as with COVID, has no place in out of control new world order. Oligarchy, evil tech, dystopian society next.
It’s frustrating when people dismiss climate change, especially when the science is clear. The reality of it is undeniable, and we can’t afford to ignore it. It’s about our planet and future generations no matter what anyone else says, we need to face the facts and take action now.
I think the desire for more and more money is all that matters to them. They have had the power to act as they wish, regardless of the damage they are cause. They believe they will be able to buy themselves out of any apocalypse they create. Like spoiled children, they always get what they want.
Corporate tunnel vision. The goal is greater profits. No one in corporate America feels any responsibility for anything that happens while reaching for greater profits. If they did feel any responsibility, they would be out of a job.
Unfriendly reminder that Chomsky associated with Epstein AFTER he became a registered sex offender. I'm begging everyone to stop having a favorite pedophile.
He has no moral standing upon which to participate in this discussion, having made choices which forfeit such privilege.
Your argument is that the attribution "may" be incorrect, and even if it isn't, it is being presented on the internet so is suspect; leads me to suspect your motivations as well.
Lol My point was that the quote itself has a sentiment I can agree with. But I also caveated that with "don't trust quotes on the Internet to actually belong to the person it's being attributed to"
All I said was that I agree with the sentiment of the quote. I never said a damn thing about the person it's attributed to or anything else he may have said or done.
It’s the end of the world as we know it. And many have not noticed other life forms gone silent forever because of it..
Why I love insects, crows and ferns and bogs.
Businesses like our culture have turned nihilistic. The advent of Ayn Rand, Gordon Geko, and the rise of quarterly thinking among the young immature minds of Silicon Valley have left their mark.
Evil, Greed, Lazy or Stupid are probably the most accurate single word answers though.
Green energy is an expensive investment but yields exponentially less expensive energy in the long run, besides being a nearly infinite resource, at least in comparison to fossil fuels.
Wrong. He called out the hypocrisy of US foreign policy. He never supported the invasion of Ukraine. Please read his entire interview and publications instead of selectively quoting him.
This idea extends to so many other areas. Privatized healthcare, public education, the lack of affordable housing, affordable higher education, support for single mothers, social security... It is the natural outcome of embracing Milton Friedman's definition of capitalism that only profit matters
The U.S. billionaire and political ruling class too. We are using propaganda and are stifling the press from publicizing how the U.S. has turned down peace deals for Ukraine and Gaza. Our military industrial complex wants more wars. Sickening.
yeah. and it's not just his linguistics expertise. how we use words to fool ourselves.
thoughts larger as well. so early life exposure to dialectical materialism type stuff also helps us to see more clearly. to me just better thinking, but I'm reading Kevin Rudd just now so.... ya know?
I said that because I believe it's surpassed everything and all else.
Truth, morality, decency & religion consigned to history.
These used to have meaning, now meaningless.
Great men & women of the past replaced now with evil men & women, held aloft for no reason other than money.
EXACTLY!!! I’ve found myself feeling the same way when the worst words that I can think of sound trivial in talking about the man-made disaster that we are immersed in.
After rereading a few posts of Timothy Snyder, "mump" is a far better and much more descriptive term for the word that means worse than evil. Welcome to 4 years of the "mump regime".

And the scorpion replied, “I can’t help it, it’s in my nature.”
The word is human.
It’s a pejorative term.
This isn't a human problem.
This is a problem with those who, if humanity were a single body, are that body's equivalent to cancer.
There that's your word beyond evil

Today 80 of the govt budget that supports 200+ m ppl in Nigeria comes from the sale of oil and gas.
But sure, stop using it.

"Self-centered wankers."
"Jeffrey Epstein paid $150,000 to Leon Botstein and transferred $270,000 between accounts for Noam Chomsky..
Chomsky met multiple times with Epstein after he was a registered sex offender, The Wall Street Journal recently reported"
Why would you hold up this monster enabler as a model?
Assuming he actually said it. It is a quote meme on the Internet after all.
Your argument is that the attribution "may" be incorrect, and even if it isn't, it is being presented on the internet so is suspect; leads me to suspect your motivations as well.
