Such a gulf between those two movies. Hereditary really chills you to the core, but I've only made it all the way through Midsommar once. Buncha whiny children I tell ya.
Both of these are some of my favorite movies, I'm glad you're enjoying them too!
Midsommar is really rich on rewatch, being able to see characters scheming, see where characters disappear off screen more clearly, and get a better sense of the surroundings.
I'm usually skeptical of "repressed memories", but I watched (and was traumatized by) that movie, and this picture brings up no memories for me at all. I have no idea how that fits into the movie.
I’m in the same camp minus finding Hereditary boring. I do think it’s a great movie crippled by a cliche ending. Midsommar is actually fantastic though.
Possession/Supernatural horror is my least favorite horror so demons are mostly boring to me too. Part of the reason I Terrifier is overrated.
I had to talk my very Swedish mother out of seeing it, since she thought it was a genuine celebration of the Swedish holiday. She didn't believe me when I said it was a scary movie where bad things happen, her response "why would anybody do that?"
first time i watched hereditary my friend and i decided to follow it up with jupiter ascending (which neither of us had seen) and let me tell you, that was NOT the correct chaser
A word of warning if you decide to watch Beau is Afraid. It's... not like the other two. I'm not going to spoil it or anything it's just very different.
This is how I went into Winter’s Bone (I’d somehow convinced myself it was the heartwarming story of a young girl keeping her family together … it was not).

(PLEASE DON'T ANYONE TELL ME)
(I suppose if I found (redacted) scary — the “explanation” for everything at the end — it would be 100/100).
A movie that has stuck to my reptile brain forever.

And forever fixated on Toni's acting in Hereditary. Excited for these next few posts cuz you're getting into the thick of it now 😆👏🏻👏🏻
The RT isn't bad.
