Nothing encapsulates the genius of CITY SLICKERS and the complexities of becoming a man like the “Best Day/Worst Day” scene. And Bruno Kirby’s delivery always hits the hardest for me.

1) So.......back in 1967 or so, I'm working as an assistant manager at Radio City Music Hall to help pay my way through school. I've got maybe 8-10 ushers reporting to me, and one of them's a skinny kid named Bruce Quidaciolu. I'm maybe 23 years old. This kid's 16, going to Power Memorial HS. It
3) We become life-long friends. He becomes Bruno Kirby, Jr. Every time I went out to the Coast on business, I touch base with Bruce. He used to date Annette O'Toole back in the '70's before she married Michael McKean. My wife and I spent a riotous day with Bruce and Annette at
4) Disneyland. We both thought they were going to get married
Totally shocked me when he died so young. He was a stunning actor, huge range: The Godfather, When Harry Met Sally, Good Morning, Viet Nam, The Freshman, City Slickers.....
TBH I was looking for a gif of him throwing out the wagonwheel coffee table from When Harry Met Sally saying "Not a word" so I deferred to another great line from another great movie 🤣
I know but was loved at the time but City Slickers deserves to be one of those forever-loved movies. Like Princess Bride or Back to the Future or Jurassic Park.
Coming from a home with an abusive father, this resonated deeply with me. I meant a lot see a grown man talking about this kind of experience, pain, trauma, and strength. Great moment in a great movie.
I don't think I ever saw the whole movie (and if I did, I don't remember most of it), but I remember seeing this scene long ago, and I've remembered it since. Even as a kid, it really hit hard.
Just the whole whiplash of the scene. Mitch describes his best day from Crystal's real memories, says his worst was when his wife had a cancer scare and then the group debates if it could be considered a "worst day" since it turned out to be nothing, and then Kirby's "Same day" line.

I grew up in the film business, but I'd never heard of his dad, Bruce Kirby. I figure Quidaciolu's got dreams like every other kid. Why puncture them?

Who knew?
The sequel was unwatchable
AND Good Morning Vietnam!
My family recites so many lines from that movie that aren't even jokes
Anytime anyone here's someone say "Jubilee" we follow it up with, "Actually it's more of a featurette. Two, maybe 3, back-to-back..."
I swear autocorrect sabotaged me on that one, lol!
It deserved to win every award!
It's a shame that they followed it up with a sequel so awful it almost spoiled my good feeling for the original.
“I hope I can help.”
“Ehi, Vito, c’mon eenna.”
"Kill anybody today?"
"Day ain't over yet."
It's supposed to be a comedy, right? THERE ISN'T A SINGLE FUCKING JOKE IN IT.
The closest thing to humor is Billy "I think I'm sooo funny" Crystal going "moo" in a voice he thinks is funny.
And its punchline was delivered
by
the
straight
man.
I rest my case. Lower than than the lowest common denominator fucken garbage movie.
City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold was actually not terrible. It had a couple of decent gags in it.
No, I'm not joking. It was a better movie.
If it helps, think of me as, like, a retro vintage throwback jackass.
I'm what assholes used to be like, before the alt-right podcast sphere started absorbing them. We just had strongly held, contrary-ass opinions.
"This was NOT in the brochure"
Love Bruno Kirby in that movie.
also, not to therapysplain everything but please never go around asking people what their worst day was 😭
