there was a 1936 proposal to build a concrete ramp structure up to the midpoint of the eiffel tower so you could drive up it. and i, for one, think it’s a shame that there was never a trend of making world monuments more car-accessible.

Needs a gas station up there too in case someone runs out. Not a fancy one though, real run of the mill kinda dingy one that has beer cozies, chips, sunglasses, lighters and whatnot.
omg, this would have been David Billington's nightmare. This cursed (real) Eiffel + (wannabe) Maillart mash-up is NOT what Professor Billington had in mind in "The Tower and the Bridge."
You'd be in a bumper to bumper queue the entire way up and down... and people would do what people do - crash into things and each other - causing cars to potentially have to reverse down the entire thing.
There was a guy in Eloy, AZ that partially built a drive though theme park where you drove around all the attractions. He even had plans for a car water slide where you'd take your car with your entire family in it and have the family car slide down.
