This led me to a post about what I’d put as a message in a bottle, something I’d never considered before. So besides being awesome, it made me reflect. Thanks Kaitlin. You always bring joy to my feed 🫶
my dad was initially convinced I had planted it (I did not), then hesitated to participate in opening the thing because "it could contain the secret to polio" (?). however, after reassurance from my mom and/or the WHO, he was onboard.
as it happens, no noxious fumes / eradicable diseases where contained therein. instead: a letter that includes some provenance and the writers' contact details. it was dropped off St. Lucia last January, and scuttled its way to the Gulf Coast of Texas!
I reached out to one of the letter writers, and they're just as chuffed! the whole thing was happy chance--one of those incidentals particular to humans, one wishful bottle at a time.
So cool! How was it sealed? I always assume my bottle would just keep washing up on the same beach and/or get waterlogged and sink but this would be fun to do with my kids!
