I've had rewarding physical jobs in my youth, they certainly weren't factory jobs, what made them really rewarding was being in control of my work, being able to take breaks when I wanted, setting the pace, having authority to solve issues autonomously

I think most people naively and incorrectly think of factory jobs as being like the YouTubers they watch who make fancy furniture or $20k acrylic-oak tables. But those were never factory jobs, those are artisans in a very narrow and high skill niche.
