I had measles as a child in the 1960s. I had to wear sun glasses indoors even though the blinds were shut and curtains drawn; still a glare. High fever, rash, respiratory infection, weakness. Just terrible. Made the Hong Kong flu look like a picnic.

Just a reminder: with an incubation period of 10+ days and contagiousness around 6x COVID, measles “confirmed cases” is a trailing indicator.

And the complications that aren’t fatal can be disabling. A relative of mine was profoundly disabled after contracting measles at a young age, prior to the vaccine. Her parents cared for her into their own old age.

My brothers and myself all had the measles and I also had the mumps and chicken pox. Before vaccines. Had the Polio sugar cubes. Didn't get any respiratory problems. There are tow kinds of measles. There is German and I don't know the more common one.

My mom had polio when she was young. She had severe weakness on her left side her whole life. She made SURE I was always full vaccinated. Then we have Moron Marge calling for measles parties. Hey, the Brady Bunch kids were fine, right? As vaccines go, it's a piece of cake. Get vaccinated.

I was born in 1958, so it was suggested I get a booster. I went for the shot. Before getting it, Tech said it was live(attenuated) virus. I asked about it and she told me people freak about it. Got the shot and forgot about. Absolutly ZERO side effects, no pain, swelling or soreness. Super Easy.

It is not chicken pox. Another highly infectious disease,but it doesn't kill like measles does. They used to have chicken pox parties. Never measles parties. Now people get vaccinated,& we eradicated these diseases. so we didn't have these worries.

My mother, was one of 12. Only 10 grew to adulthood. 2 died at home, in different years, both before turning 3, due to Measles causing Pneumonia. Mother was older than them by a decade and their deaths stuck with her all her life. They were my Aunt Joan and Uncle Joseph.

Although rare, measles can cause infections leading to encephalitis or menengitis. Measles can lead to miscarriage in pregnant women. Measles can cause blindness. Everyone doesn't have the same reaction to a disease. I wish these dummkopfs would stop downplaying how serious this outbreak is.

It's the other "measles", rubella, which isn't measles at all but that we called "German" or "3-day measles" that is very dangerous for pregnant women.

Generally, rubella is less dangerous than measles (which we called "hard" or "7-day" measles)

#Measles can cause blindness. I had both kinds as a child before the vaccine was introduced. I had excruciating pain, was blindfolded, malnourished. Given yucky cod liver oil, my chest slathered with goose fat. I had pneumonia several times. I have a benign tumor on an eye that distorts vision.
