Today’s Russian papers on today’s economic problems in Russia: “Butter 30% more expensive than last year…price of potatoes up 65%.” Plus, the rouble falls past 100 against the dollar & “Chinese banks tighten checks on payments…” #ReadingRussia

And not to mention all their military equipment is junk. That's why they got a meat grinder and they ask help from Little Kim of North Korea for some soldiers that are getting a huge culture shock pun intended.
With turning its economy towards war production and the cost that it brings its not surprising inflation increases. Russian,s economy is not a very large one you have to wonder how long they can keep going before it rampant inflation
I wish more media outlets focused on the actual frontline of this war: the remaining balance in Putin's National Wealth Fund. Russia's economy is the cannibal eating its own leg to stay full. The location of battle lines on the map WILL NOT MATTER when Putin runs out of cash to pay his thugs.
THIS. Watch Russia's National Wealth Fund. Ukraine is WINNING by forcing the draw down of Putin's savings fund. When that runs dry, the unpaid thugs will go home. ~$50B to go, it's going fast!

I wonder if pro-Putin sycophant Tucker Carlson will be going back to Russia to do an update on the inflation they're experiencing with food? He delighted in showing us the Russian grocery store and the prices there over six months ago...
Part of Putin's tactic for complete control is to fund opposition parties and insert bad actors in those parties so there's as much conflicting information out there as possible in order for people to not know what is true anymore.
Wait, Biden caused this in Russian...I'm confused ...I though it only happened in America. It's actually global. Woke Russians are real too? Hey, Don...wake up and smell the roses 6 ft above you.
well, it's kinda true. But depends on the region. Kaliningrad (where I live) is kinda toughest one too. Moscow's prices going up too, so yeah. Fuck, it's annoying I wanted to get money for better pc parts, but I guess it will be a long time to get something decent
I heard from a Russian source that interest rates were just pushed to something around 21%. We complain about 4%. Just comparing notes, but maybe we should be a little grateful we don't have their economy... yet *gulp*...
Those are papers from Russia. Nothing like opposition or anti-government pampers doesn't exist anymore in Russia. All are either dead or escaped abroad.
Thanks, I'll take a look. Steve Rosenberg's post was interesting from the point of view of what Russian papers are saying about the situation from a Russian point of view.
Watch the ruble collapse even more when the rest of BRICS cotton on to the fact that the midget isn't just threatening the West. Do they even know we are all on the same planet?
Sanctions and a lack of skilled labor—due to emigration or war—are driving wages up. Moreover, India and China won't transact in rubles, leading to a foreign currency shortage in Russia and complicating companies' access to foreign spare parts.
Steve do you think the Russian people will eventually turn against Putin because of the hardship re inflation and loss of loved ones, or are they steadfast and stand with him?
Apathy is best word to describe ruzzians. They won't. Best bet is other oligarch who see where Putin is dragging them. Now all their hopes lie on Trump.

The benefits of a war economy and the need to keep the population of the cities as happy as possible.
The billionaires raised prices on purpose knowing the fascists and the so called 4th Estate (what a joke of a term today) would blame Dems.
Then trump would reward them with another tax break.
Will it be a Tangerine Revolution?
He's probably letting these articles be printed.
Putin is doing this and doing it openly.

What could go wrong?
Russia: challenge accepted, just watch this.
This gives me hope that we may have, at least, seen the end of the beginning. Maybe even the beginning of the end.
Stay safe Mr R.

Trump thinks Putin is a genius. Shitty mainstream media (as a whole) will never make sure that vast swaths of US know what a shithole that Purin's Russia is. 21% interest rate in Russia. https://www.euronews.com/business/2024/10/25/russian-central-bank-hikes-interest-rate-to-record-high-21-to-fight-inflation
That might lower prices?
Worth a shot.
Thanks for the insights into Russian life. Really important stuff.

No doubt % rises will be fairly accurate, as readers will be aware of price increases.
Spoiler Alert: No.
