Went to an urban university (quite a while ago...). I can parallel park on either side of the street, into a space that just fits my car, almost always on the 1st attempt.
I was amazed when my kids learned to drive and didn’t have to parallel park to pass the test. I made them learn anyhow. Everyone should know how to parallel park and how to drive a manual transmission.
Dad was the King of parallel parking. People said I was the king but I explained to them that as his eldest son, I was only the crown prince and by royal succession, would remain so until his death. Sadly, I am now the king.
My one superpower. Unfortunately, we will never get the credit because people on the street (who should be clapping obv) assume we are using park assist.
This just the preliminary work. Nobody seems to be addressing the ENGINEERS & CODERS that are also adding their contributions. Some are KNOWINGLY/actively embedding malicious, racist & white supremacist tropes into algorithms — & other foundational machine learning/backbone data points. -ONE. 💯
As long as you beat this — you good. Good luck at finding a spot in NYC. You'll be going in circles depleting ozone. In some spots you need "double parking skills"! Then you'll pray that there aren't any Traffic Cops. That TICKET is ASTRONOMICAL! -ONE.🇺🇸🗽🚘😂😂😂
Yeah, but have you ever tried to parallel park a 6 axle, manual transmission, box truck from 1966, FILLED WITH OVER 2 TONS OF UNSECURED SOUND EQUIPMENT IN THE BACK, in a downtown baltimore back alley, during artscape/sowebo/death fest?
Your day is coming. You’ll understand how sign reading comprehension is enhanced by turning the radio volume to the left. You whippersnappers all eventually join us geezers.
It’s freakin’ weird. I needed to do that more when I was younger than I do now. It’s like, when I was a young driver, I had to manually *think* and talk myself through each maneuver as I was driving.
Now it’s so engrained in muscle memory? Doesn’t matter.
Perhaps the most difficult thing I had to learn was parallel parking in the U.S. after being able to parallel park blindfolded for years in Australia. Learning how to do it all in mirror image was surprisingly hard.
Brit here, and I still can't do it in the US. (And I live in NYC so the incentive is high, not least because people stand around and point and laugh and curse at you). But there's something which hardwired that function in my brain to the other side of the road early on, and I just can't unwire it.
I’m in NYC too and I had to learn it to get my NY drivers licence. I ended up using some tips from a YT video that specified specific geometry and what you should see (e.g. bumper or curb) through the little triangular window, etc. It was a high stress exam and I did bump the curb but I passed.
People have clapped for my parking, but they live in Oregon and I was then a recent and reluctant NYC transplant. Manual transmission even. Parking cameras have taken away the fun
Those are some mad skillz. I have to turn the music down, roll the windows up and tell everyone in the car to shut up. And even then, I eventually ask if someone else in the car can do it.

Time for a park-off!
Too funny!
I’m the one who has to turn it off🤣…and most of the time decides to park on the side street to avoid parallel parking🤪

Its parallel parking: CRITICAL MODE.
DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Are you saying it’s all downhill???!!!
Shh! You smell that?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
