In this novel, 17yo girls are texting each other. The author tried to make it authentic, like so:
R U there?
but I think we should spell out the words, because smartphones and predictive text eliminated the need to save characters like that.
If someone who knows a teenager could chime in...

*this is most unlike me.
As for the spreadsheet, there's still time. ;-)
That's all ancient history now. I don't know a teenager. (My 25-year-old doesn't do that stuff.)
his kids (19 and under) always use full words.

That’s so real
(This is what I get from my 15-18 yo interns. Tell them to add the emoji character set)
u there?
Is much more likely
capital letters while still including the implied be verb is so weird
predictive text is turned off on a lotta peoples phones cuz its annoying and it fucks with the chill vibes but we type fast anyways.
R u there?
Or
r u there
R u there
No punctuation, ever
I am worried enough about the state of literacy in youth of today!
"Are you there"
Thank you for the follow-up
When they text me, they tend to use full words, but i am old. between each other? not sure, but i think its full words, poor grammar and some acronyms (ik = I know, af = as fuck, etc)
(:
which is unforgivable frankly

I understand why. Doesn't mean I have to like it. I already converted from two spaces after the period to one. This is a step too far.
Here’s messages from my then-7 year old:
