In building a 68-mile tunnel under Las Vegas, Elon Musk’s Boring Company has skirted building, environmental and labor regulations, according to records obtained by ProPublica and City Cast Las Vegas.

Musk thinks money buys everything. But the fact is, it doesn't.
Elon Musk will NEVER have integrity, character or honest respect.
Never.
Regardless of what that asshole believes...money can't buy those things.
This has the makings of a great disaster movie. Danny Ocean and the gang undermine a casino's cash vault, triggering a massive collapse of the whole Las Vegas strip.
It's even more impressive that the dude at that link seems to think it's a great innovation while at the same time exposing how stupid it is. 15 MPH "when it gets congested"?
Here in CA the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge carries 260K vehicles per day. *4 would mean over a million.
Thing is, he promised he could beat SF-LA HSR, which would go around 200 MPH. Instead it's airport to city? OK, Shanghai Maglev has peak speed 250 MPH, average 150 MPH. What's this thing doing?
From the ProPublica piece:
"Inside the narrow tunnels, which glow green, magenta and orange, the driver navigated shoulderless roadways at 35 mph, which felt fast."
35 MPH is apparently pushing it too far.
Meanwhile SF Bay's BART, a system built in the 70s, currently does 70 MPH on some segments.
Personally I would avoid driving through any tunnel built that had advised and regulations, restrictions, reviews and inspections. You know it's going to collapse sooner or later.
Isn't that, aside from the sewage his workers are actually currrently in, about as stupid in Nevada as trying to make a subway in MN shale? (I know, don't give him ideas). 🙄
I just can't read this. I get so damn angry when I hear about these rich fukkers getting away with soooo much shit, I could scream! WHERE ARE THE ENFORCERS????
My blood pressure is at an all time high just writing this here!😡 Boring under Vegas? WTMFAF for?? WHY??
This is the whole point in his buying of a president. Tr√mp said anyone giving him a million or more will get regulations waived. Musk wants to dominate world trade & resources. He wants a Transatlantic tunnel that would pass Greenland. He wants the Canadian railroad and he wants the Panama Canal.
They need to get him on Emoluments violations and immediately impeach him again.
Then remove him!
That will leave us Vance and #Project2025, but that can all be undone in 2029. Then we expand the court and fix gerrymandering and add congressional seats by making territories states.
Well not Joe MAGA yet, but the ones in Congress who are realizing musk is threatening them into submission with threats to pour obscene amounts of cash into planted opponents. Joe MAGA will need to feel actual loss of their lifelines.
I saw this morning that some Republicans have written legislation to be presented in Congress to allow for the President to negotiate with Panama to buy the Canal! For those who say he's not serious...he is. So much for lower grocery prices and gas. You've been conned Trump voters!!!
“The scale of corruption will be orders of magnitude greater than what we saw in the first Trump administration,” ethics professor Kathleen Clark of the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis told the Associated Press.
Ground in Las Vegas is very earthquake prone. Of course should there be an earthquake and the tunnel damaged, Musk will want the taxpayers to fix it, especially with no oversight he causes one.
So, I'm suddenly struck by this thought: the USA and all of its lands are about to be a free-for-all for a world of wealthy crazies who make "deals" with fake and failed businessmen while they're partying downstairs.
Just like his failing cars, I wonder how long before these tunnels cause a building or tunnel collapse. My thoughts and prayers for Las Vegas in advance of Elonia's failure. #TaxtheRich
This is classic Elon. Nevada experiences low level tremors often, how will this tunnel withstand a decent sized earthquake? Nevada is listed as third in the US for seismic activity.
Why is USA letting a nutter immigrant, who worked in USA illegally for years, do whatever TF he wants no matter how detrimental to the ppl & the country. Now he’s an unelected President too & USA is letting him rob the country blind along with his creepy billionaire bros. Get your shit together USA.
One of the key ingredients of Musk's success is sidestepping costs that everyone else is obligated to bear—things like thorough testing, safety measures, permits, and compliance.
At one point, Tesla's lead engineer had to push back against Musk to convince him to increase the number of testing hours for each vehicle. Tesla's testing time was just 1/10 to 1/15 of what typical automakers invest. The compromise raised it to a still minimal 1/5 (20% of the industry standard).
Make no mistake, this is what he wants for all of his companies. The freedom to do whatever he wants with them with no official oversight on whether environmental & employment laws/regulations are being adhered to. It is why he's leeched onto the Dump admiration, they are more easily manipulated.
This guy sucks. He’s a wannabe railroad baron from the gilded age, wrapped up in empty platitudes about progress. He doesn’t give a shit about humans, humanity, or the planet - just his bottom line.
This South African transplant, who seems to have no appreciation for the American republic, has so much money that everyone is afraid of him. Bannon credits Musk with putting Trump back in the White House. Just bought it for him.
This is just one lawless action by a broligarch who thinks he not only IS above the law, but he SHOULD BE above the law. Who's watching this abuse? Who's watching him try to steal water in drought-stricken Texas for his battery plant because HE NEEDS IT TO MAKE MORE MONEY (whine, whine whine)??
Haven't we all seen the movie where they have underground tunnels and they are weakening the structures they run under leading to catastrophic collapses? Not to mention the real-life consequences to the water table.
Musk is a large scale disaster walking.
Good points, Business Insider did a story on tunnels in 2019, most have to be rebuilt, they leak, get flooded and in Cali are in an earthquake zone, it's a real bad idea and costly.
He has literally said that he would rather be fined after causing problems than have to do things with oversight in the first place. There could never be high enough fines or damages awarded in court that it wouldn't just be "the cost of doing business."
He reaps destruction and wastefulness everywhere. At a lithium plant built by Musk near Robstown, TX, when he applied for permits to build, Musk told the authorities his plant would use 800,000 gallons of water per day. In reality, the plant uses 8 million gallons of water a day.
He is like every robber baron. They cause devastation and then plead ignorance. Get how he wants fines not regulations. Like Trump he will delay and not pay peanuts for damages. Total disaster waiting to happen.
I guess one good thing about a musk presidency is lawyers will become obsolete. Laws will mean nothing so anyone can say they're a lawyer. No study, just conviction.
another unfounded experiment he thinks will 'help humanity' when really it's just caressing his ego cus he has the power to do it, to make people work. that's all he has. people to work for him.
He could rebuild Los Angeles single handedly and still have ENORMOUS wealth, more than any human being needs, but that might benefit undeserving POC (spoiler: he's racist AF) and people who are infected with the woke mind virus. Besides, they haven't earned compensation like he has & no ROI.
I have so many questions about this. How deep are the tunnels? Have they hit ground water? How will they dispose of any water entering the system? Have they passed through toxic rock and soil in the process. Many rock strata out west have things like radium, arsenic, etc.
Musk needs to lose his US citizenship and he needs to be catapulted immediately, back to South Africa NEVER to return to NORTH AMERICA, GREENLAND OR THE UNITED KINGDOM OR ANY E.U. COUNTRY!
But someone wanting to build a moderately priced home would have to jump through hoops while he get to destroy the environment and harm people in the process. Great.
The real issues are that the tunnels are too small for rescue vehicles AND that Las Vegas is seismically active, with multiple fault lines across the valley.
I saw a claim that Elon is named for a character in a sci-fi book who is the leader of a colony on Mars where they live in tunnels. The man making the claim had tons of evidence of why he reached this conclusion, not the least of which is the book. I'll try to find the video and post the link.
Will this be like his first tunnel, with only enough space for a single car to drive round, but not enough to open the doors to get out in an emergency? What happened to the hyperloop - that's right, it was just puffery.
"The approvals allow the company to build and operate close to homes and businesses without the checks and balances that typically apply to major public transit projects."
Imagining Las Vegas collapsing into a giant crater like in the finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer....
Do you know how many tunnels have failed around the world and they are not even in an earthquake zone? This is another Musk 68 mile disaster! Say "NO". Part 1 of 2/
#DNC
Some things cannot be undone:
...Musk’s notion of how government officials should deal with entrepreneurs: avoid lengthy reviews before building and instead impose fines later if anything goes awry.
How big a fine to deter $400 billion net worth. $112,000?

It's now "let's drive people in cars underground".
Las Vegas voters should have fired whatever addle-pated moron looked at this and said "sign us up"

Only the poors break/violate laws
Which seems important, but apparently no one in America cares.

Which is probably one reason he's advocating for the AfD…

The perfect self-driving cars are supposed to come out any time now… since 2016 😆
How did Elmo get away with NO oversight????
Can't buy back mistakes like that.
What a corrupt asshole.
Not so much now... 🤔😕

I woke up thinking about this article.
Every person who pushed to deregulate (pretty much everything) should be sleepless thinking about this article and Musk's actions.
There are some that are not found but the 400000 number needs context.
