Sitting at Costco eating my $2 lunch while a person at the next table is ranting about higher ed & how professors are super pretentious & highbrow. They also suggested professors are rich.
So tempted to tell them.

Their ignorance is bliss to them (and a curse for the rest of us.)
Such great "opportunitues"
For that matter, why does an athlete get paid $84M a year, being cheered on by someone making $84 a week?
Try being a professional athlete.
Or some doctorate degree holders that are considered not that good, so they only earn a minimum salary of $900k and sit on a bench all day doing nothing 🤔 🤨
I've gone through college & seen some bad professors. My Calc 2 prof didn't know any of the material, so couldn't teach it to us when the book alone wasn't sufficient
University.
It's all about the ticket sales.
How much revenue do 'professors' bring in?
1. Citation needed. I bet once you exclude the top 25 football schools, the revenue is minimal.
2. A football coach has nothing to do with the mission of a university (education and creation of knowledge), while professors do.
Good for you.

It’s nothing but a bloated bureaucracy that has no value. Education, like many other things, is bet handled locally at a state level.
Do not engage.
Reasoning with a Trump supporter is like explaining calculus to a German shepherd. Pointless.
It’s not fear. It’s just common sense.
Maybe it’s an assumption, I don’t give a shit. It quacks, it’s probably a duck.

Of course the problem today are the brainwashed who become the equivalent of stupid. I.E MAGAs, one-issue-idiots, racists, bigots, fake christians & atheists.
No pretentious behavior, just no need to pretend.
Ones that publish or have labs w/ huge grants are also financially comfortable. 🤷🏻♀️
Recent graduates experience at least one pretentious professor or those who don’t help= #quietquit
Agree to disagree.
Practicing gratitude can change lives.

I’d juggle a few $3k adjunct courses in a heartbeat 💓 plus love every moment to enhance, inform, +learn from students.📚
Those who aren’t passionate about it should reevaluate + change paths.

I hear you.
But for minority women in academia we’d be grateful to accept that pay or even land an interview.

I always knew that the USA is dumbing down the electorate to control them more easily.
Trump would like that.
a lot of people think that a lot of fonction have a huge salary.....

Your information is most likely from testing the UNEMPLOYED so not the general POPULATION.
Non-U.S.-born adults comprise 34 percent of the population with low literacy skills, compared to 15 percent of the total population (figure 2).

Honestly it's a question of what direction they came into academia from🤔
All that I meant was that the money those professors had wasn't coming from the teaching itself, but other sources.
Which isn't something everyone going into teaching can do or even have the bandwidth for - that's also why I think they became teachers later.
It’s about
Boldness
Firmness

Govts listen to the rich & powerful. Those whose interests don’t serve the public.
I think people believe what they believe because they never get confronted with evidence to the contrary.

Proof: shopped at Costco this morning to save $$ on staples.
I was like- Do you think I’m not middle class?
Bc I moved away. Anyone not in her neighborhood = rich. Bc they have a life she wasn’t familiar with.
That’s all it takes to deny reality. Unfamiliarity.
I assured her I wasn’t rich or anything beyond middle class.
I also suspect she doesn’t apply the same rule to her daughter who moved away.
But maybe that’s bc she’s more aware of her life? And she can tell herself whatever story she wants about mine?
Sowwwwy!
I also realized a few years ago that I'd given up on my dream of being a professor, as I no longer have the energy to go through the tenure process, nor could I afford the pay cut.
That $2 meal will eventually cost you a lot more than $2 if you make a habit of it.
I love thatCostco does sell whole plant foods at amazingly cheap prices, and I hate that you need to know that. Prof’s should get paid and live high.
Meanwhile, new teachers starting at my mom's old school probably make less than Costco employees, buy supplies themselves, and get yelled at by the parents of their 30 kids who don't listen to anyone.

Tenure is a vanishing dream and adjuncts are the trend - and being an adjunct just sounds like it sucks all of the balls.
