I’m so sorry! 🥶 If you don’t have direct recommendations for other plumbers, Checkatrade can be a good source of names, or Which Trusted traders search. I would never, ever, have another boiler installed by British Gas - the installation in one of my Devon houses was awful.
DO get a bunch of quotes, preferably one from heating engineer with electrical quals. My nephew is both and often replaces jets, valves, boards at a fraction of replacement because he’s honest.
What’s your present one and what is problem.
Perhaps you could get it on interest free credit. I've bought a new bed with a hefty price ticket, but it's spread over 2 years so the pain isn't so great.
I have a Potterton, but I'm in social housing so it's not my responsibility. I asked Boilerman on one of our annual inspections about the life expectancy of the boiler and he reckoned about 15 years. And he also said Potterton are the best.
I'll sympathise with a 'bolleaux'. 😬 That must be unwelcome news. Are you without heating until a new one can be installed or can the existing one be persuaded to limp on?
I remember hearing Peel play them at least twice. The first time he said he should probably call them the P-Flaps, but he must have taken advice from BBC higher-ups (or thought 'to hell with it, I'll take a chance') because a few days later he went with the full name.
My daughter’s boiler died about 3 weeks ago but it had been installed in 1997 & had had no much repair it wasn’t a surprise. New one being installed on the 19th. She has been chilly
Might be worth checking out if there are any council/govt grants going in your area. We managed to benefit from a deal the mayor did a while back to encourage people to use greener boilers and it saved us thousands.
Well hope you get sorted. My new Worcester in 2018 was about £3,000 supplied and installed bit of inflation since then but hope that helps work out if a quote is fairly near the mark. I’m sure other people would have recommendations.
That’s not bad. We’ve been quoted higher in Liverpool. Boilers are a thing this week, had my daughter, SiL and Grandaughter here since Sunday when theirs broke. 4 yr old new build & no one will touch the crappy boiler 🙄
That’s a great price. Always had Worcester boilers but have inherited a Baxi. Ours is a bit dearer because we currently have a water tank which needs to go and replace with a combi.
Only fly in the ointment (if you could call it that) is to maintain the 10 year warranty you have to have it serviced every year by either Worcester or an accredited installer, at the moment that's about £130..no quibble with the warranty though replaced the whole radio controller last year
That's a good price. We had the filter added. It's a bit large (and we had the mini one put on) but we're getting used to it. Unfortunately our boiler is in our kitchen in full view!
Well yes, there was a conversation where they said it’s not under guarantee because you didn’t register with us within 30 days, which I know is absolute b*llocks but don’t have the strength to join in the fight. Manufacturer is coming today, please God 🤣🤣
Just had to replace last year. Recommend calling around five or more plumbers if you can take the time. Ended up going with another veissmann. It’s working well and got it for 60% the price of my former plumbing company. ( they wanted 20k+ and I got it installed for 12.5k tax in).
Oh no. We went for a Worcester Bosch too a few years ago. It's had a few issues and I'd opt for a Vaillant now but would also consider a heat pump to reduce my carbon footprint
Oh, I have a different sort of boiler to you. Mine produces hot water as well as heating, so is on all year round.
But still mainly breaks in the winter!

I was thinking a gas or oil fired central heating/ hot water boiler.
It’s a Worcester Greenstar 28i Junior GC 47 311 87 NG
My dominatrix dungeon idea is looking ever more necessary
Not sure what it means, but I get the sentiment. 🤠
Sorry about your boiler.
Hope they can get you one in quickly?🤦🏼🤞🏼
Sorry about the boiler.
Any grants you can get to help with that?
Good luck getting it all sorted
I’m just shelling out money on this house (mind you, most of my time has gone on being a carer for the last 10 years).
