Nope, 80 bucks is just too much, it's a bridge too far. I can't bring myself to accept that price point and I play games as a career. AAA games were already an occasional thing for me, the only game I paid 70 for in recent years was Metaphor and that was a very special exception.
I can't justify 80

I hear Nintendo almost never has decent sales which is one reason I've never bought a Switch.
Is FOMO that strong that companies think people will just keep paying more when the library of existing games keeps growing?
The whole industry is running headfirst off a really perilous cliff that I hope reverts dev cycles back to more manageable games that have to cost less.
Never touched such a game, unless it was on sale far below 60€
Can I play such games when they release?
No.
Do I care?
No.
Do I still play games with friends?
No. Because they all jump the hype train and switch games faster than I change my underwear
Fuck that guy. I'll just replay 2 for the umpteenth time.
Split Fiction got it right.
but maybe im the dumb one for wanting shittier consoles and shittier games...
You want more accessible games not shittier games.
(Though I did accept gifts from friends who paid 60 cause they choose too)
Because nothing can ever truly be yours. It has to be licensed, with TOS’s agreed to. And eventually dropped from their
Fuck Nintendo.
Fuck Microsoft.
Fuck Sony.
Fuck their wallets right to hell
Fuck the gaming Industry
Art fulfills both. Fascists cut it because of the threat it poses to their rule, not because it's a "luxury". Having time to think means we might realize they're fascists.
Our minimum wage is just shy of 16$ an hour and there are not a lot of places in the region who'll pay more than that for any job you don't need a degree and 5 years exp for.
call me a hater but mario kart world doesnt even look that good. i dont think it does anything to justify the price at all from what ive seen.
maybe in 3 years when they add new content, and hopefully its *free* content at that high of a price point, it will work its way towards being worth that price
as it stands, no. dont pay that.
Imagine for the other two worlds.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is fantastic, cost $50, and sold millions of copies.
Oblivion Remastered cost $50 and sold millions of copies.
Maybe selling 2 $60 games and making $120 is better than selling
1 game for $70.
Investors.
Raising prices is selling to fewer.
indie games are also going to go up in price and that's not because of executive greed it's because that's how indies are going to make enough money to live
it doesn't change the fact that games still cost more to make (wages have increased even if they are relatively stagnant and dev teams are bigger than ever) and that games are going to cost more whether or not they are triple A

Now we're doing long term rentals and it's 3x the price.
devs aren't getting paid more.
AAA studios don't pay rent.
yeah.
the only _inflation_ that these prices are doing work for, is executive bonuses.
yeah and there are more people playing games now than before, what's your point?
(im in finland, sony evades taxes and doesnt convert the income toniad as they use european tax haven here like all companies do yet theyve been charging 20-25usd premium for digital since dawn of ps4 and nobody explains why)
They'll do a $120 special edition of a game that has MTX in it
Like looking at "inflation" or whatever, the $80 tag tracks compared to other entertainment, but the money consumers have is not following at all. I blame capitalis
But in a world where CEOs of gaming companies suck up more money and push developers to rush broken projects with micro-transactions, AI elements, and incomplete stories? Nope. Not even remotely tolerable.
Project Zomboid cost me like $20 and has given me more joy and playtime than pretty much any AAA game
cost $1.50
and
it was one of the best games i've every played.
These are luxury good prices imo, only available to the common consumer during deals.
Charging someone $90 for early release too is also ridiculous. I still can't believe Hades 2 isn't an actual released game yet.
Getting gouged at purchase only to have them kill support for it in a year or three and suddenly your game is gone. Fuck that.
It's utterly ridiculous.
The idea that $1 still only gets you as much game development as in 1990 is ridiculous. Nevermind making it up in volume as well.

With Mario Kart it's especially bullshit because that game always sells ~infinity copies. MKW world could be the most expensive-to-develop game in the world, and they could sell it for $50 and still cover development costs with only 20M copies.
And there's also the fact that mismanagement is expensive. AAA games would be a lot cheaper to make if publishers went hands-off.
