Am enjoying being back on a platform where you can actually have a reasoned discussion about an issue with people you disagree with, rather than being immediately bombarded by bots and trolls

I had a good conversation about assisted dying with someone who’s views differed from mine. A subject as loaded and emotive as that being calmly debated in blank text, on a social media app, is a brand new experience. Long may it continue.
But he wasn't talking about people who don't troll, he said exactly what you just said. Your response was to ridicule it then state exactly what he said lol
i would normally agree with you but Republicans are impossible to argue w/ now. they accuse George Soros of controlling Dems and Musk announces he's the "Soros of the right".
They complain about a Clinton/Obama dynasty when Trump was the only one that put family in the government. just hypocritical
I haven’t been called the R word and told to cope yet… I don’t know if my blood pressure can handle remaining a consistent level while reading the opinions of other people.
Only within seconds of setting up my profile I was followed by an unusually attractive female with no posts or followers, saying "hi"🤔
So even before I've read a single post I blocked an account 🤣
Actually, Adam I am finding these replies, quite useful for weeding out those who should be blocked.
Keep reusing the phrase until it sticks: "Block early, block often".
Just looking forwrd to a platform that moderates its own guidelines. The bots and trolls will come, they always need feeding, but easy enough to laugh at their desperateness and send them to the pokey
Yes me too. I’m also trying to follow people who aren’t just liberals so I don’t end up in an echo chamber. I am rediscovering reasoned debate and constructive disagreement
I haven't deactivated my Twitter yet, but just checking in on a few posts. Saw one that was deservedly critical, but respectful, of the qualifications of one of Trump's cabinet nominees. The replies were a long trail of MAGA supporters spouting profanity and hatred. But, hey - free speech.
That's just it. I'm happy to disagree on issues with people. It's only natural. But I'm not interested I'm having any engagement at all with trolls and bigots.
I'm here because I'm done with energy vampires/abusers expecting me to JADE when they have zero actual interest in true discourse. They need to learn to inform themselves and to be quiet until they are willing to do that and until they can be respectful of another's time, space, and energy.
That's true sometimes. However there are people that bring their "passion" to a debate and don't really want to listen to any opposing views. I hope this place doesn't become an echo box like Twitter.
I’m anticipating the ghouls and droogs that have made X so toxic will migrate too at some point - when they work out there are no ‘lefty, woke’ people left to pile in on.
Then the key to BlueSky’s success will lie in its ability and willingness to implement a meaningful moderation policy.
But there is a level above that, where the most vile people (Andrew Tate, Alex Jones, Jordan Peterson and others), who were initially and rightly banned completely and then reinstated by Musk, need to be kept off the platform.
Because they’re the people that the real a***holes follow.
This! Accused of being an LW echo chamber by the swamp-monsters. It’s not! It’s a place where human to human we can converse; disagree; rant; shout; swear but have discourse that’s not hate filled or vitriolic. I want debate that’s rational & lively, tht challenges me. The rest? Leave it on X!
THAT! I enjoy arguing. But in the word’s original meaning: debating, constructing arguments. I’m not here to agree with everyone. I’m here to grow through constructive exchanges. And chat. 🌱
You've had a reasoned disagreement? I've had someone claim that Republicans don't deserve human rights and Israel's destruction is more plausible than one person dying.
I'm actually having chats with people whereas on twitter my posts were mostly unseen & I've only been on here 2 days. I'm slowly finding my twitter follows so my timeline is filling up with posts relevant stuff rather than twisted, vile vomit.
I pop over to read posts sometimes but I mostly have just kept my profile there to track people I follow to see if they're here too. I'll probably put my twitter account on private soon.
Soooooo woke, conversation is for those who have their eyes shut so they need to talk about other people’s experiences. Real people with their eyes wide open know everything already so don’t need discussion 😉
It's lovely. My Twitter feed was so polluted by disinformation, people being abusive and bloody Temu ads that it was both unusable and deeply unpleasant. I post very little on social media as a rule, but feel like I can come out of my shell a bit on here.
With the mass migration taking place, here comes the trolls. UT off their air supply immediately-- block them as you see them. Don't give a chance to get a foothold, or they will ruin this as much as they ruined Twitter.
It’s so nice to be able to write something without having to read it multiple times thinking “How could this be deliberately misconstrued by somebody out to cause trouble?”.
I feel the same way.
I made a comment that was posted on Facebook about Elon and 27 minions of his attacked me. It was horrible. They hacked my Facebook account and then they followed me when I got on TikTok.
Haven't been sworn at or called a woke lefty moron once. Just proper conversations with decent people. Let's do our best to keep the poisonous trolls out of this safe place. With that in mind I've just blocked Reform UK and Reform Scotland.
Honestly the divisiveness is crazy - people leaving a certain platform doesn’t need to be political but there are a lot of other major reasons (liability, demographics, advertisers ect).
I agree though I am unbelievably excited to learn this platform and to grow on it.
It’s political because the ownership of X is distinctly and openly political. For all the crying the right wing made about the perceived left wing bias of Jack Dorsey or the original Twitter team, they certainly aren’t concerned when the bias is in their favour.
Could it be that the things you are being given are the more popular articles, because a lot of people joined x because they wanted to hear the news from every one and not just the left wing news on the TV? So that viewpoint gets more engagement.
well but what the problem? if x is perfect let it be so. nobody closes it. people disliokes it and leave it. everyone is happy? but from what i've seen it's totally "maga" now. and i'm not even american and don't really interested in it's politics.
I am currently looking at a Blue sky news feed with a clean account and I can certainly tell you something about the political slant of the content im being fed.
As can you also tell with every traditional news source, they just don't say it and pretend that they are unbias. That is the part I don't like is the being fake, that and not being up front when they are mistaken. It undermines their credibility.
The vast majority of people on this app will be people from a centrist to left wing viewpoint who have deserted Twitter because it's a right wing cesspool of horror.

Likewise & humour too

Let me lay out the key points of my arguement
😁
it reminded me of twitter back in the day.
Godwin's Law is unavoidable.

Union jack avatar, nouns in bio, 3 followers, championing fossil fuels, man utd and trump etc posting at 4am
Well it is panto season nearly.
(With permission, obviously)
just in case you were missing it… 😉
I think most people prefer to have dialogue that way, but it seems to have gotten lost on social.
I like that Bluesky puts the users first 💕
Sorry...
It was a struggle.

Stockholm syndrome is a 'thing.'
😂😂😂
....but I won't. :)
It is nice to be in a civilised place again.

X became a propaganda tool for Musk
What did you notice about the political slant of the content you were being fed?
Or are you going to suggest that a man who just claimed to be the right wing Soros, isn't gaming the algorithm at X?
I follow mostly pro-Ukrainian accounts reporting on the war and people left of centre and my feed is the exact opposite of this.
What are you expecting your feed to look like?
