You’re so right! They seem to not notice themselves holding opposing views! How about they consider standing up for what happens between you and your doctor is between you and your doctor period? This should be true for every person.
The NYT frequently manages to land on the wrong side of history. Their reporting during the rise of the Nazi party and the AIDS crisis was famously terrible and complacent. It's shocking that they've been able to maintain a reputation for good journalism.
Mf. Rapidly shifting. No. It is exactly rhe SAME as it always has been gender has always been the way is now but a bunch of itchy anus jerks decided to focus on it and freak out.
There was no room for debate on trans kids just 5-6 years ago. Anyone could have done it, I was a kid then. They are clearly on the opposite side of the argument, and doing revisionism.
This is no different than legitimizing antivax foolishness since every single medical professional association that has made policy about treatment of trans youth supports affirming care, as does the increasing body of medical research about treatment of trans youth.
If they were really worried about children in sports...they would be writing about child predator coaches, sports physicians, and even volunteer parents involved in sports.
"There are some issues -- such as Avogadro's number -- that remain fiercely debated, with "scientists" claiming it's 6.02214076 × 1023, while others maintaining it's the correct number of toppings on a hamburger. It's important we make room for and report on all points of view in this matter."
Growing a spine would be coming out and admitting they were wrong. Deleting their old opinion pieces and putting out comprehensive proof that it won’t happen again. What they did was just try and ride the line as they bleed subscribers
Apparently healthcare and sports participation aren't part of the "freedom and dignity to move through the world as they choose"? What do they think that involves? A thumbs-up and yard signs?
I consider everyone who works there complicit in the paper's right-wing agenda. I don't care if they do good work or if they're trying to use the NYT's wider audience to reach more people. Their very presence is used to launder the wider reputation of the organization.
Fellow trans folks, can we dial down the echo chamber? No one outside our little bubble is interested in snarky remarks. The “reasonable” Cis have some irrational fears; but we’re not changing any minds by shouting at them. They also think we’re all drag queens. 🙄 Maybe we get past that, first?
I’m not referring to the Cristofascists. But non-cultists? I’ve had many conversations with people who genuinely don’t know anything about us. The NYT is definitely a bit “both sides”-ish these days; but I think this editorial is positive and helpful.
No, because if they did *the bare minimum of actually doing their fucking jobs*, they would be reporting on how those concerns have no basis. This is not difficult information to find.
This has fuck all to do with a "trans echo chamber", this is literally just calling for accurate reporting
BlueSky is totally a trans echo chamber. I can see it because I only joined recently. No one outside this bubble reads any of this. It’s dangerous for *us* — makes us feel powerful to be angry, but it affects absolutely nothing.
It’s totally accurate — The Cis have concerns, irrational or not. Putting our fingers in our ears doesn’t help.
Also, keep in mind that the NYT editorial board is not part of the newsroom. I’m not real happy with the coverage, either. But this kneejerk rejection is useless.
Statistics don’t change minds (see: climate change). Personally, I’m willing to sit at the table with Cis, and hear *why* they fear me. And fear is what this is about. Maybe we need some yelling, and some listening; but the listening is in short supply.
Do we need to debate whether the government should be interfering in this stuff? Much less interfering before anyone has even verified that there's a problem.
The NYT is part of the problem we have with fascism today - they work to enable the racial capitalist structure. They have normalized the indefensible for far too long.
A great book for Black History Month 2025 that I encourage all to read is "The Black Antifascist Tradition"
It’s vitally important to not let the NYT try to rewrite history and hide their role in perpetrating an attempted genocide. It’s a stain on any good work their other reporters and editors do and they should all be ashamed and outraged.
The exclusion of trans people from sports is misogynistic because it inherently assumes that women can’t ever beat men, which is objectively false. There are other reasons, but that’s the most glaring one imo.
cis people will always hold a supremacist view of trans people. They believe we made a choice to be trans, in that erroneous belief, they view us as being inferior.
least surprising thing possible. especially because any "reasonable concerns" they have always seem to lead straight to bans rather than to funding more research, evaluating whether existing guidelines are suitable, and so on
At least they're trying to be fair. We have to be willing to talk stuff out in order to make things work for everyone. We can't just hate on people who don't see things our way right from the beginning. At least they changed their stance to be more positive over time, right? Isn't that what we want?

NYT: "I can't believe you're attacking our journalistic integrity!"
This is where those debates led! This is the result: an unscientific, draconian overstep in power that does nothing but gut minority rights.
Literally stop talking when you don't understand something challenge 2025
fuck 'em.
This has fuck all to do with a "trans echo chamber", this is literally just calling for accurate reporting
While many people may not understand us, it's the *job* of news agencies to be accurate. And this article is objectively not accurate.
Also, keep in mind that the NYT editorial board is not part of the newsroom. I’m not real happy with the coverage, either. But this kneejerk rejection is useless.
It's not wrong to acknowledge people's feelings. But it NEEDS to be followed up with "but the science is clear -
Continuing the "debate" is continuing the dehumanizing
If you can't even start the conversation, then you're not gonna solve the problem.
The NYT isn't even starting the conversation.
