This is an incredible story. Extremely well written deep dive into an entire generation captured by generative AI. Even professors are using AI to grade AI written papers.
Wild.

I don't know anyone doing this, either. I don't think I know anyone who ever would.
Reminds me of the 2000s when every business had to have their own dot com domain and advertised theirs heavily.
As for programming, it produces incongruent code. Bastardized inputs, outputs, data structures,
As for formal writing, mainline LLMs are completely unfit. The language that they put out is cloudful, pseudously-friendly, paternalistic and incoherent. I experience physical pain whenever I see their weird verbal sludge.
Jobs are screen candidates with LLMs while other companies are flooding them with fake AI resumes.
What is the point?
It has as much value as anything else right now.
It's just so...mediocre, at best, and absolutely terrible at worst. We check every AI suggestion, and sometimes, it's great. Like 1/4 of the time.
Otherwise, it's just insanely wrong.
Maybe someone can come up with an AI program to program this AI.
could the scope of "everyone" be slightly reduced to say, essay driven forms of prompt and response?
also, define "professors" please. any teaching maths at any level? even remedial (see also harvard vs us)
But that’s not how it’s used.

It’s easy to say LLMs only produce slop when they’re only used by slop shovelers
We all make ethical compromises under capitalism. I’m fine calling it a spade, but spades aren’t useless
Criticism being so loud today is a big advancement.
'kay.
Makes you wonder if AI searches will eventually go the same way as they are absolutely unsustainably expensive.
Also duckduckgo also has the AI garbage now too
It can take a LONG time using any search engine to find the stat source.
Ai can give me 5 links to the different studies that researched it and it significantly cuts time to just click on each and ctrl find.
And I kid you not, it literally suggested "Latina".
Do we genuinely think LLMs are good at translation?
Either way, it’s so so so much better than google translate.
Thank you for the let me Google that for you response though! I deserved that.
I feel awful for these students who won't get an education because they're skipping the work.
It’s the equivalent of drinking piss
But in a world where failing to find a way to sell your labour can be deadly, AI itself is deadly.
We aren’t culturally or legally ready to safely use AI
(1) the quality of the subject matter it’s trained on.
(2) the amount of critical thinking the user engages in (I.e. asking follow-up questions, reframe the question and compare answers, etc.)
It doesn’t replace critical thinking and comprehension.
it's the whole style of writing
except the professors doing itThey shuoldb,eFrired, ofc,,
We're doomed.
I wish I had finished my studies before everyone started using #TheHideousThing. I'm sick of this lunacy.
