The fact that we all know he's lying doesn't even matter here if the plaintiffs bring this into court. It's not sworn testimony, sure, but it's an official communication (per the DOJ). If he's creating plausible deniability for himself, DOJ and ICE are going under the bus on this.

Nope. The US has to "facilitate" the return but can't be obligated to "effectuate" it. SCOTUS punted it to the lower court to state what that could look like.

It seems like this entire legal case could be resolved if just one reporter asks President Bukele “Would you release Kilmer Abrego Garcia if President Trump asks you to?” A “yes” answer would confirm that the U.S. has the ability to “facilitate” release, a “no” answer would be shocking regardless.
