If you are a person who loves being fit and healthy and toned, I can tell you that it would probably be better for you to eat a whole large pizza every single day of your life than to get long covid.

I’m a runner. I got COVID last year but thankfully didn’t get long COVID. Still, even with regular COVID it took me almost 2 months to get back to where I was when it probably would have taken about 2 weeks after a cold. It messes you up.
Luckily I read about athletes pushing themselves too soon and relapsing with long covid so I did the thing runners hate. I forced myself to rest longer. I kinda think that made a difference.
Recommend at least Doppler ultrasound of neck and leg vasculature on regular intervals after an infection to help track possible vascular damage.
Wish my doctors did this. They did not.
Said I was fine.
Had a heart attack a few weeks ago, while exercising.
Stay safe🙏
Wow. So sorry you’re dealing with that. I misspoke slightly. My bout with Covid was 12/23. I spent 1/24-2/24 rebuilding to where I was. I’ve been back at 36 miles a week without any problems for about 10 months so I think I’m ok, but I would have rebounded in a couple weeks from a cold or flu.
I spent the entire year (2024) rebuilding mitochondrial endurance with the help of Cornerstone Long COVID physio.
All signs were good. I had been incorporating more running in my training in the fall (2024) as well (carefully monitoring HR). No issues.
MI had no lead-up symptoms.
Undetected..
plaque/clot caused by COVID vascular inflammation. Could have happened at any time over the past 5 yrs due to Long COVID persistence.
Angiogram of heart in 2020 was clear, but they didn't scan the rest of the body. This is why I'm recommending body vascular scans even if healthy/feel fine.🙏
Didnt touch on neuromuscular issues. Goldfish brain memory, tremors and spasms in my hands (i used to juggle, now drop things), balance comes and goes. ADHD seems turned up to 11; cant focus to read novels.
Folks, COVID can mess you up. And the damage stacks!
But also if you want to bulk up your protein, you may find your diet is now severely restricted, thanks to MCAS (a histamine intolerance). Also, like meal prepping? Histamines increase over time, so leftovers? A no-no for some with Long Covid-related MCAS.
So no matter how immune your healthy body may feel, the truth is the virus doesn’t work that way. And the best thing you can do is not to up your workouts and supplements
I am horrified to read how badly you've been struck by the virus. At the same time, I am grateful that you are sharing this, because it reassures me that I was right to shield like I have been doing and am still doing. This virus is so scary.
All the best to you!!
I wish people understood how much the new allergy thing SUCKS. I never had any nasal allergies, now I have chronic sinusitis and respiratory issues. Terrible constant congestion, sleeping sitting up. I'm also much more intolerant of gluten and dairy.
Anyone still saying 'just a cold' can eat sand.
I am rapidly running out of any herbs and spices I can have - cinnamon, cloves, ginger, basil, parsley, thyme - it’s a bland life. But the dairy is the one truly sending me spiraling. I would do murder for a bowl of cottage cheese.
Thank you. I was an endurance athlete with 7 marathons & 2 centuries to my name. 2wks before someone infected me, I completed a 6.5hr 107km ultra Duathlon.
Now I have to sit to brush my teeth and can’t even walk to the corner shop.
I did EVERYTHING right & still life ruined on my only infection.
I am living this. I would have preferred the pizza.
It would also be nice if doctors understood this. It’s like rubbing salt in a deep wound when doctors tell people with long covid that they have to exercise. My doc didn’t know what PEM was.

It's not a good thing. Like chickenpox, we'd all be better off if *no one* caught it.
Whoever said "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger" has clearly never suffered from scarred lung tissue or shingles.

Long covid has me breathing hard just 1 time around Costco and out to the car.
My warmup weights leave me exhausted for days.
And I’m now diabetic. It did something to my pancreas, have to do daily insulin shots now.

Humanity is doomed.
Been collecting stories since 2020
Some recover after years but many never do
We use all we knew about training, endurance and pain management to just be barely functional
Most depressing is rampant denial of others hell by those that were fortunate to only have short illness

It’s to wear a mask.

Now I sometimes struggle with the 15 m to the bathroom and am trapped in my apartment because I can't walk up and down the stairs leading to it.
I would have preferred pizza.
