We need the presidency, and congress with a strong enough bench to keep it for more than 2 years.
Really, if we hold the presidency less than 8 it could backfire badly.
Honestly, though, a big gripe I've long had with the Democrats in general is an attitude of "It's not possible right now, so let's not even talk or think about it."
Frankly the cap on the house, the electoral college, and the original design of the Senate give the Rs a significant advantage, and they use it to gain more.
Not giving them blueprints for more power is probably good.
