This is outrageous if true. Like the doctor is going to wake the patient up on the table and ask: “you want a big bill for more anesthesia or do you want your wife to give you a swig of whiskey while we finish this up?”WTF @AnthemBlueCross!!

I mean a surgery takes how long it takes. The surgeon isn’t doing a conga line in there to kill time. You can’t predict complications either. This absurd on its face.
When we started allowing insurance to dictate what doctors can and can’t do by refusing to pay for things, we opened a can of oops that may never be cured.
While claim denial rates can vary among health insurance companies, certain providers have garnered attention for their higher-than-average denial rates. UnitedHealthcare, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Aetna are among the companies that have faced scrutiny in this regard. Apr 9, 2024
They’ve been throwing revolutions, undergoing social unrest, and changing governments in Europe for three MILLENNIA, whereas America’s only had two revolutionary wars and has had one form of government in its entire 280+ years of existence. We’d be fools to not at least listen to suggestions.
I suggest handing the top hospital administrator & all medical personnel involved in a patient’s care a contract by which they agree to accept the approved reimbursement as payment in full. If everyone did it, they’d be flummoxed.
*Satire, sort of.
Anesthesiologists get paid basically by the hour. The insurance company wants to stop paying them after a pre determined length of time . This does have to do with patients. It’s just decreasing payments to the doctors
A friend is an anesthesiologist & astonishingly rich. Trust me, he came from very humble roots, so I’m willing to bet that his hourly rate isn’t discounted to the patient when the insurer pays less than his stated hourly rate.
I’m a lawyer. I understand hourly rates, billing & discounts.
Nope, it's all taken care of before things begin when you sign that paper saying you are responsible for what your ins won't cover! The patient is screwed. You can file for bankruptcy & be done with the debt but of course that bill from the lawyer DOESN'T go away! And what if you get sick again?
No they just bill Months After the Procedure … both Myself & My Wife Got Billed for Anesthesia NOT Covered for Each of Our Colonoscopy Exams … MONTHS afterwards. They Bill Separate so they Sneak it In Later
They've apparently rescinded this brilliant idea. Apparently no one asked the anesthesiologists and they are now ENTHUSIASTICALLY providing their feedback. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
This is only the beginning with Trump as President. Elon Musk and RFK, Jr have vowed to reduce costs of Medicare. The first thing they have discussed is privatization of Medicare by turning it over to private insurance companies. It is called Medicare Advantage! Be warned.
The “magical” hospital billing will just charge unsuspecting patients thousands for the “extra 2 hrs of anesthesia & the hourly rate of the anesthesiologist”…
This looks like some Disney villain BS.
I'm concerned that this claim is likely an urban myth. Insurance companies like Anthem don't typically ask patients to pay for anesthesia in this manner. It's important to verify information before sharing.
I was once hospitalized and needed an x-ray, so they wheeled me down to Radiology. When I received bills (LOTS of bills), I was notified that the Radiology was out-of-network. Inside an in-network hospital. Explain that.
I wonder if all the CEOs are in hiding? If so, they brought it on themselves. With all the hatred against these greedy people, that killer may end up becoming a folk hero.
Bullets are cheap, that's not the bottleneck. The bottleneck is that everyone who takes such actions is choosing martyrdom.
I'm not Dan Carlin but you don't need to be a hardcore historian to realize that martyrs appear consistently whenever inequality gets this bad. It will happen more. And here.
It may seem contradictory to some, but the poor and downtrodden are never as willing to give their lives as when their lives are all they have left to lose.
Don’t threaten me with an opportunity to be a difficult patient! I will absolutely wake up 3.4 hrs in so I can make it impossible to continue without more anesthesia. I won’t consent to it…fight me Doc….
I wonder if these executives feel safe walking across sidewalks anymore.
Imagine a world in which cruel and greedy people feared consequences when they made choices like this. Would they still do it? Can't wait to see what happens next.
IF true?!?! Every crazy story about an insurance company is true. And none of them are doctors, or can make any type of medical diagnosis. Its a scam. A scam to take people's money for NOTHING
Freaks me out. The worst medical experience of my life: I woke up on the operating table in the middle of surgery. Blood everywhere. The anesthesia asst. pulled the breathing tube out of my throat w/out deflating it properly and decades later the damage to my larynx has never completely healed.
It's true but the policy hasn't gone into effect yet. Thing, is the anesthesia provider won't leave the patient and has no control over how long the procedure lasts and Anthem knows it. It's basically trying to force them to work for free when a procedure lasts more than a certain time.
It’s only the start , we will have lousy air water food , unsafe flights on and on , it’s sheer madness , but they know they own everything plus the courts , so please , WHO is going to stop them ??? Nobody , the few who would are too scared .

Seriously tho, what is wrong with these people? I'm genuinely trying to understand what'd make a supposed healthcare support org choose such a manifestly unfair approach 🤔
This makes it difficult, where it already is problematic, to feel any sympathy for the CEO that got shot in the back. You are responsible for what you do at your job, and my guess this was revenge over denied treatment.
In slapstick comedies they always used the hammer. Maybe Anthem would swing for the cost of hardware? (Not to mention the stars and birdies circling the patient's head)
The anesthesiologist will just be working for free after a certain time and trr get ey are prohibited be congress from billing you for the rest. This is about stiffing the doctors
Anesthesiologists are typically the most “expensive” medical doctors, and for good reason they hold your life in their hands. These corporations are trying to cut costs on the most important medical professional in the hospital. It’s gross 🤮 and unethical.
The part they’re not saying out loud is that the rest of the treatment money is being given to rich Wall Street assholes. You think you have insurance coverage but not really.
I can’t help but think the outcome is that some people will decline surgery, then will be even sicker and in need of additional medical care, and end up costing insurance companies way more. This is not an especially well thought out move, it seems.
No, what they will do is ask you, before surgery is scheduled, if you will commit to making up the difference? If you say you can't, guess what? No surgery!

Gotta go back in time and get rid of Reagan, he's the one responsible for insurance companies deciding to be doctors. It's been all down hill and a huge grift since then.
We won’t. We will go to work and pay our interest and shoot fireworks and never speak to our kids about anything important while wondering if vaccines and the FDA are okay things to do.

FAFO
It’s not hard to pin it down.
It appears you better reverse this, if true.
It’s unacceptable and we are already pissed enough
We will do nothing to stop it. Clearly.
We will explain how the people who suffer must have just been silly, and WE aren’t silly, just Them.
They count on it.
It’s the entire business model, knowing that nobody will ever stand up to them.
I don’t think yall realize how many hospitals and physicians scam insurances
